Ava Kris Tyson left “all things MrBeast” in July 2024 as online grooming allegations circulated. Tyson denied grooming, and the person at the center of those allegations also denied being exploited or victimized. Separately, a former employee identified as Jess alleged that Tyson sexually assaulted her. Those claims are distinct, and the available reporting does not establish a judicial finding on either allegation.

What were the allegations?

Online allegations involving a minor

In July 2024, allegations circulated in an online video and posts about inappropriate conversations and contact between Tyson and a minor. TIME reported that Tyson denied grooming. TIME also reported that the person identified in the allegations denied being exploited or taken advantage of and called the claims false. The allegations and denials should be understood as competing accounts, not as a finding that grooming occurred. TIME’s July 2024 report describes the claims and responses.

Jess’s separate allegation

In an August 2024 report, TIME said Jess, a former executive assistant, alleged that Tyson sexually assaulted her. Jess described feeling pressure to engage in sexual acts because Tyson was her boss and said she feared risking her job if she refused. TIME reported that it contacted Tyson for comment but had not immediately received a response. This is Jess’s allegation as reported by TIME, not an adjudicated fact. TIME’s account of Jess’s allegation is distinct from the online claims involving a minor.

How did Tyson and MrBeast respond?

Tyson announced on July 23, 2024 that she was leaving “all things MrBeast” and social media, citing family and mental health. TIME reported that she apologized for past behavior or comments that hurt or offended people, while denying grooming. Her statement said: “I would like to apologize for any of my past behavior or comments if it hurt or offended anyone. It was not my intent.”

On July 24, MrBeast said he had removed Tyson from the company and channel and was hiring an independent third party to investigate. TIME quoted him saying: “I will allow the independent investigators the necessary time to conduct a comprehensive investigation and will take any further actions based on their findings.”

What did the company investigation find?

The Associated Press reported on November 1, 2024 that the nearly three-month workplace-culture investigation found “several isolated instances of workplace harassment and misconduct,” but no basis for allegations that MrBeast team members committed sexual misconduct. AP said the investigation, led by lawyer Alex Spiro and Quinn Emanuel, included 39 interviews with current and former employees and review of millions of documents from phones, email and messaging platforms. AP also quoted Spiro’s letter: “It is not uncommon that policies and practices essential in a mature company would lag behind commercial success.”

That was the reported conclusion of a company workplace investigation, not a court ruling on every allegation concerning Tyson. AP’s account does not explain whether or how investigators assessed Jess’s specific allegation, so the company-wide conclusion should not be presented as having disproved it. AP also reported that between five and ten employees were fired; the company did not specify who was fired or why, and the report does not establish a connection between those dismissals and Tyson or these allegations. The Associated Press report on the investigation describes its scope and findings.
