The specific exchange is not independently confirmed by the available coverage, so it is not possible to establish exactly what was said or how the moment unfolded. Separate reports from Butler’s film press tour offer context for why viewers noticed his eye contact—but do not establish his intent with Harris.
What can be established about the Sarah Harris moment?
The supplied title identifies Harris, The Project and The Bikeriders, but the contemporaneous sources available here do not include a recording or transcript of that particular exchange. Its precise date, dialogue, sequence and Harris’s reaction therefore cannot be verified from those sources. The word “flusters” should be read as the title’s characterization of the moment, not as proof of Butler’s intention.
Why Butler’s eye contact drew attention on the press tour
In a June 21, 2024 article, Glamour described Butler’s eye contact during The Bikeriders press appearances as flirtatious, citing other interviews. That is the publication’s characterization of those appearances; it does not verify the Harris exchange or show that Butler meant to flirt.
The same article reported Butler’s explanation that he learned to redirect his attention when he feels self-conscious. As Glamour quoted him, attributing the wording to his interview with The New York Times: “If every time I feel attention on me, I start to feel like I’m imploding, then I just need to put my curiosity onto the other person.” This is Butler’s reported account of managing shyness, not a statement about Harris.

What he said about eye contact in the film
In a June 18, 2024 Rotten Tomatoes interview, Butler discussed the scene in which Benny first meets Kathy, played by Jodie Comer. He described looking into someone’s eyes, thinking, wondering whether they can read your mind, and studying their face. His remarks concerned performing that scene, not the interview with Harris.
The film behind the interview
The Bikeriders, directed by Jeff Nichols, is a fictional film inspired by Danny Lyon’s book about a 1960s motorcycle club, according to the Associated Press. Butler plays Benny, an enigmatic member of the club. The film’s release brought its cast and director into press interviews, including the broader promotional appearances discussed in the coverage above.
