The latest available VOZ daily report, for Wednesday 7 October 2026, puts Seven News first and 9News second on national Total TV reach. My Kitchen Rules and The Block are almost tied on reach, with different strengths in average audience and BVOD viewing. This is a one-day overnight snapshot, not a definitive verdict on the whole week: although the VOZ index lists Week 40 (27 September–3 October), the accessible weekly report page still showed Week 39.
Wednesday’s leaders: Seven News and 9News
In the national Total People table, Seven News ranked first with a reach of 2,071,000 and an average audience of 1,338,000. 9News ranked second, reaching 1,919,000 with an average audience of 1,221,000. Seven led by 152,000 in reach and 117,000 in average audience, while 9News recorded the larger BVOD average audience: 187,000 compared with Seven’s 161,000. These figures are from the VOZ Wednesday 7 October overnight report.

Report card: Seven News passes on both leading measures in this snapshot. 9News remains firmly in the top tier and has the larger BVOD audience of the two; that distinction does not overturn Seven’s lead in reach and average audience.
My Kitchen Rules and The Block: virtually level on reach
The reality-show contest is closer still. My Kitchen Rules ranked third with a reach of 1,732,000; The Block ranked fourth at 1,729,000—a difference of just 3,000 viewers. My Kitchen Rules had a slightly higher average audience, 1,011,000 to The Block’s 1,006,000. The Block, however, had a larger BVOD average audience, 247,000 versus 199,000.

Reach, average audience and BVOD are different measures
The overnight Top 30 is ranked by Total TV reach. Reach counts people who watched at least one minute; average audience measures the average audience across a program. A show can therefore reach more people without having the larger average audience. The separate BVOD average audience shows the streaming component rather than serving as another name for reach.
VOZ combines free-to-air broadcast viewing on television sets with BVOD viewing on connected devices in a national, de-duplicated, all-screen dataset. Its public reports cover national free-to-air Total TV performance. OzTAM describes VOZ as the public source for audiences consuming free-to-air broadcaster content across broadcast TV and BVOD. Why this is not yet a full-week report card
The daily overnight report is a preliminary snapshot. It differs from the daily Consolidated 7 report, which gives results for the latest date after the consolidation period, and from the weekly “When Watched” report, which describes cumulative reach for a survey week and offers national, metropolitan and regional views with broadcast-only, BVOD-only and shared-viewing splits. OzTAM says its measurement service is based on the viewing behaviour of more than 12,000 individuals, using metering across television sets in panel homes; broadcast viewing watched later within the consolidation window is attributed back to the original broadcast event. Details on the products and measurement are available from OzTAM’s reporting information.
At the time of the latest available report, the VOZ market index listed Week 40 as 27 September–3 October 2026, but the accessible weekly report page still displayed Week 39, covering 20–26 September. Week 40 weekly figures were therefore not available on that page, so Wednesday’s daily results cannot be treated as the week’s final standings.
How much of the picture is BVOD?
OzTAM’s first-half 2026 report said Total TV reached 86.7% of Australians each month and that BVOD represented 19.1% of Total TV viewing minutes, up from 16.2% in the second half of 2025. The report covered 28 December 2025 to 27 June 2026; these are broader trend figures, not measurements for the week of 7 October. The OzTAM H1 2026 report also recorded 4.8 billion BVOD viewing minutes in Week 25 (14–20 June 2026), its highest weekly volume since the VOZ currency launched in December 2021, attributing the volume to major live sport including the FIFA World Cup and NRL State of Origin.

How to read the overnight result
- Use the national Total People table for all-audience comparisons; VOZ also publishes separate reach tables for People 25–54 and People 16–39.
- Keep reach, average audience and BVOD average audience distinct: each answers a different question.
- Compare like with like: the same program and broadcast date, measure, geography and reporting stage.
- Treat overnight ranks as provisional. OzTAM’s public notice says: “Program performance and ranking information is subject to change when not based on final program logs.”
