Why Jimmy Barnes was in hospital
According to ABC News’ August 4, 2024 report, Barnes felt a “twinge” in his hip while leaving Dunedin, New Zealand. The pain became severe enough that he went to hospital. Doctors recommended a remedial medical procedure followed by physiotherapy.
Barnes said he expected a full recovery in six weeks if all went to plan. That was his reported expectation at the time, not a confirmed recovery date. The ABC report does not name a diagnosis or specify which procedure was performed.

What was known about the affected shows
Barnes said his August and September 2024 solo shows would be affected and that ticket holders would receive more information once plans were in place. The cited report does not establish whether each date was cancelled, rescheduled or otherwise changed, so “shows cancelled” should not be read as confirmation that every affected performance was cancelled.

That current guidance does not establish what happened to the 2024 dates; check the live page and the relevant ticket provider for current information.

Barnes’ hip-related hospital episode in August 2024 should not be confused with a separate health crisis in 2023. In a December 13, 2023 statement on his official website, he said a bacterial infection had spread to a heart valve previously replaced because of a congenital defect, and that he was to undergo open-heart surgery. That earlier statement concerns a different condition and episode; it does not identify the cause of his 2024 hip pain.
