Short answer: Astra Streaming Studio and OBS Studio are not direct substitutes on the evidence available. The Google Play listing describes Astra as an Android app for mobile streaming, IP-camera use and recording; OBS is a desktop production and streaming application. Whether either fits your low-cost PC depends on your exact devices, stream settings and network—and no available benchmark establishes a universal winner. If you mean a different product called “Astra Streaming,” confirm its identity before comparing it.
What Astra Streaming and OBS do
Astra Streaming Studio is listed as an Android app
The Google Play listing for Astra Streaming Studio describes mobile-device streaming, recording and IP-camera use. It lists H.264/AAC and support for SRT, RTMP, RTSP, RTMPS and RTSPS. The listing reports an update on 31 October 2023; check the current listing and your device’s compatibility before installing.
That description does not establish that Astra is an OBS plugin, that it has a desktop version, or that it can be used as a drop-in replacement for OBS on a PC.
OBS Studio is desktop production software
OBS is used to compose scenes and sources, then stream or record from a computer. It can suit screen sharing, gameplay, external audio/video equipment and more involved productions. The OBS Help Portal says OBS is open source under GPLv2, free for commercial as well as personal use, and has no watermarks or usage limitations.

A possible arrangement is to use an Android device running Astra as a camera or stream source while OBS handles desktop production and encoding. That is a workflow to test, not a verified Astra-to-OBS integration or a guarantee that a particular phone can send a compatible feed into a particular OBS setup.
Which should you choose for a low-cost PC?
Choose based on the job you need done, not on an assumed performance winner. Astra’s listed role is mobile capture or streaming; OBS’s is desktop production. The sources do not provide a like-for-like test, a cost comparison, or a benchmark showing which runs better on an Indian low-cost PC.

- If you need desktop scenes, screen capture or a production with several sources, OBS is the relevant desktop application to evaluate.
- If you want to use an Android phone as a camera or mobile streaming device, Astra’s listed features may be relevant; compatibility with your intended OBS arrangement still needs a test.
- If your priority is whether a particular inexpensive PC can encode reliably, neither product’s general description answers that. Test the exact computer, scene and output settings you plan to use.
Will OBS run on your low-end PC?
Meeting OBS’s published system requirements is not proof that the machine can stream or record adequately. OBS’s requirements page, dated 25 August 2021, states: “Having a compatible system does not guarantee that it is capable of streaming or recording using OBS Studio.” It also explains that CPU demands change with encoder, resolution, FPS and scene complexity. Treat the page as baseline compatibility guidance, not a current performance guarantee for a particular budget PC.
Before deciding, note the computer’s processor, graphics hardware and available encoder, RAM, operating system, intended scene complexity, and target resolution and frame rate. If you plan to use a phone with Astra, include the phone model and the way you intend to feed its output into OBS. A desktop with a simple static scene has a different workload from one capturing a game, layering sources and applying effects.

Set YouTube Live settings, then test the whole setup
YouTube’s encoder recommendations depend on codec, resolution and frame rate. Its H.264 bitrate figures below are platform guidance, not guarantees that your PC or connection can sustain a broadcast. Choose a quality your sustained upload can handle and test representative movement and audio before going live.

YouTube also recommends a two-second keyframe interval, CBR (constant bitrate), AAC or MP3 audio, and RTMPS. These are YouTube recommendations; they do not establish a minimum upload speed for India or guarantee a stable stream on any ISP. Recheck YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions guidance for the current recommendations and the codec and output combination you plan to use.

Configure and verify rather than guessing
- Enable live streaming early. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions. YouTube says first-time live-streaming enablement may take up to 24 hours.
- Choose a realistic target. Select the codec, resolution and frame rate you intend to use. For H.264, use YouTube’s corresponding bitrate recommendation as a starting point, not as a measurement of your PC or network.
- Configure the encoder. Set CBR, a two-second keyframe interval and AAC or MP3 audio as recommended by YouTube. Use RTMPS where supported by the chosen setup.
- Protect the stream key. Enter the YouTube stream key only in the intended encoder or service, keep it private, and reset it in YouTube if it is exposed. A stream key is a credential that can allow someone else to broadcast to your channel.
- Run a private or unlisted rehearsal. Include the movement, sources and audio you will actually use. YouTube explicitly advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
- Monitor stream health. Watch YouTube’s live health indicators while the rehearsal runs. Check for dropped frames, buffering, audio problems and encoder overload; reduce frame rate, resolution, scene complexity or bitrate if the setup cannot hold steady.
- Repeat under realistic conditions. Test at the time and on the network you expect to use. A short successful test does not establish that a longer stream or a different scene will behave the same way.
Copyright and channel-policy checks
Before streaming a documentary, film clip, music track, broadcast or other third-party material, make sure you have the rights or permission needed for your use. A successful encoder test does not establish permission to broadcast the content, nor does it guarantee that a stream will avoid a copyright claim or other YouTube action. Review YouTube’s current rules for live streams and your channel before broadcasting. This is especially important for documentary creators using footage or music they did not produce.
Common problems and what to check
- OBS opens, but the stream overloads or drops frames: compatibility is not an adequate-performance guarantee. Check the encoder and OBS statistics, then lower output resolution or frame rate, simplify scenes, or choose a bitrate your connection can sustain.
- The stream buffers despite a suitable encoder setting: the actual connection may not sustain the chosen upload. Rehearse on the same network, monitor YouTube’s stream health, and reduce the target bitrate or output quality if needed.
- Astra’s feed does not appear in OBS: the listing’s protocol support does not verify a specific phone-to-OBS path. Confirm the exact output method supported by your app version and OBS setup, check that both devices and network can reach each other as required, and test before relying on it live.
- YouTube will not accept the broadcast: verify live streaming is enabled, the correct stream key is entered, the encoder settings match the selected output, and the key has not been reset.
- Video works but audio is missing or distorted: check the selected audio source, input level and encoder audio configuration in a rehearsal with representative sound.
- The PC passes a short test but fails in a longer session: repeat a longer test with the complete scene and normal operating conditions. The available sources do not establish a runtime guarantee for either product on a low-cost PC.
