How many units did it sell in its first week?
Billboard reported 227,000 equivalent album units, but that figure is not a count of albums sold. It combines album purchases with streaming and individual song sales, converted into comparable album-equivalent units.
| Component | Opening-week figure | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| Streaming equivalent album units (SEA) | 148,000 | Equivalent to 194.92 million on-demand official streams, as reported by Billboard according to Luminate. |
| Album sales | 77,000 | Album purchases counted as sales. |
| Track equivalent album units (TEA) | 2,000 | Album-equivalent units derived from individual track sales. |
| Total | 227,000 | Combined equivalent album units for the U.S. tracking week ending March 14, 2024. |
The figures and breakdown are from Billboard’s chart report. Streaming was the largest part of the opening total; 77,000 album sales were a substantial but distinct component.

How were streams converted into album units in 2024?
For the March 2024 chart, Billboard’s reported conversion framework counted one album equivalent as one album sale, 10 individual track sales, or 1,250 paid or subscription on-demand official audio and video streams, or 3,750 ad-supported on-demand official streams. Those are the historical ratios relevant to Eternal Sunshine’s debut.
Luminate’s methodology page now lists updated ratios effective Week 1 of 2026: 1,000 premium audio or video streams, or 2,500 ad-supported streams, equal one album. The page retains the 1,250 and 3,750 ratios for 2025 and earlier. Applying the new ratios to the 2024 opening would misstate how its reported units were calculated. See Luminate’s chart methodology and guidelines.

- eternal sunshine is Ariana Grande's seventh studio album, featuring the #1 lead single, "Yes, And?"
What formats contributed to the release?
Billboard reported six vinyl configurations, six CD configurations, a standard digital download, and a slightly deluxe digital download with four bonus tracks. The six vinyl versions included a ruby-red edition; five used alternate cover art. Four alternate-cover editions were exclusive to Grande’s webstore and one to Target.
The album sold 33,000 vinyl copies in the opening week, Grande’s largest vinyl sales week to that date, according to Billboard. That figure is one part of the album-sales total, not an additional amount to add to the 227,000 equivalent units. The report documents the release’s formats and opening-week sales, not current stock or availability.

What does the Billboard 200 ranking measure?
Billboard describes the Billboard 200 as ranking the most popular albums of the week in the United States using multi-metric consumption measured in equivalent album units and compiled by Luminate. Luminate says it collects activity across streams, product sales, song sales, and airplay, then uses weighted measures to compare consumption types. Its data and equivalent calculations power Billboard charts; Billboard makes final eligibility and ranking decisions. Luminate describes its eligibility guidelines as collaborative with Billboard and says the model is reviewed about quarterly. See Luminate’s overview of its data and its chart eligibility guidelines.
For comparisons with other albums, match the market, chart, tracking-week dates, and methodology period. A chart date is not the same as the last day of the tracking week, and an equivalent-unit total can include different proportions of sales, track downloads, and streams. For 2026 comparisons in particular, account for Luminate’s updated streaming ratios rather than treating figures calculated under different ratios as directly interchangeable.
