There is no representative evidence that WWE fans overall are “okay” with three-hour Raw and SmackDown. Published reactions are mixed: some viewers value the extra room for stories and roster exposure, while critics say longer episodes can drag or feel padded. SmackDown’s runtime has also changed more than once, so the answer depends on which period you mean.
What the evidence says about fan opinion
Commentary shows that some fans welcome longer shows and others prefer a tighter two-hour format. It does not show what most WWE fans think. The available coverage does not identify a representative poll, disclosed survey method, or comparable study measuring audience preference for three-hour episodes.
In June 2025, Cageside Seats writer Cain A. Knight criticized the drawbacks of extended wrestling blocks while noting that some fans liked SmackDown at three hours and worried that a shorter show could mean less television time for roster members. Read the commentary.
When SmackDown returned to two hours on July 4, 2025, a Wrestling Inc. review welcomed the change. Its writer argued that the extra hour had not yielded enough varied material, while recognizing that longer episodes can make more room for stories and talent. That, too, is an individual editorial reaction—not a measurement of fan opinion. Read the review.

A November 2025 Last Word on Pro Wrestling report described many fans rejoicing at reports of another three-hour SmackDown run. It supplied no poll, sample, or method, and said WWE had not officially announced the change at that time. The report illustrates visible reactions, not a verdict from the audience as a whole. When SmackDown was three hours
SmackDown ran three hours from January 3 through June 27, 2025, then returned to two hours on July 4. WrestleView reported on December 12, 2025, that Michael Cole had confirmed a return to three hours beginning January 2, 2026. Its report identified USA Network as the U.S. outlet and Netflix internationally at that time. How Raw’s Netflix debut fits—and what it cannot prove
Raw moved to Netflix in January 2025, retaining its three-hour weekly format. The launch drew substantial reported viewing, but those numbers say how many people watched or engaged with a specific debut—not whether they prefer three-hour weekly episodes.
- WWE and TKO reported 4.9 million global Live+1 views for Raw’s Netflix debut.
- They reported 2.6 million U.S. households Live+SD, measured by VideoAmp, 116% above Raw’s average 2024 U.S. audience of 1.2 million households, also measured by VideoAmp.
- The company also reported 223 million social views across platforms on premiere day.
These are company-reported launch and audience figures, not an opinion survey. The WWE/TKO release gives the figures and measurement labels. The Associated Press also covered the move and quoted WWE President Nick Khan and Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque discussing the deal and the show. Their comments are executives’ views on distribution and programming, not independent evidence of audience preference. Read the AP report.

Why viewers may disagree about the extra hour
The case for three hours
A longer broadcast creates more room for matches, story development, and roster members to appear on television. For viewers who want more talent featured or enjoy extended stories, that additional time can be a benefit.
The case for two hours
The same extra hour is a larger time commitment. If viewers feel it is not filled with enough distinct, engaging material, pacing can suffer and the episode can seem padded. The 2025 reactions around SmackDown show both sides of this tradeoff, but do not establish how common either view is.

So, is SmackDown better at two hours or three?
The available evidence cannot settle that as a universal preference. Two hours may suit viewers who prioritize pace and a shorter weekly commitment; three hours may suit those who want more story time and roster exposure. The documented reactions are mixed, and there is no representative comparison showing which format fans prefer overall.
