Career activity is not the same thing as accountability. In a March 20, 2025 Rolling Stone feature, CT Jones argues that Jonathan Majors’s return to film should not be treated as proof of redemption: the question is whether he has acknowledged the harm and shown credible change, not simply whether new work is available.
What the court decided—and what it did not
Jones reports that a New York jury convicted Majors in December 2023 of third-degree assault and second-degree harassment involving Grace Jabbari. The feature says his sentence included therapy and a 52-week domestic-violence intervention program, with no jail time. Those are the feature’s account of the case and sentence; it is not a substitute for a court record.
The conviction is distinct from Jabbari’s testimony and civil allegations, and from allegations about other relationships reported by Rolling Stone and The New York Times. Those claims should not be presented as additional criminal findings. The feature says Majors denied the broader allegations. In an April 2024 Good Morning America interview, he said, “My hands have never struck a woman, ever.” That is his denial, not a judicial finding.
Career momentum is not evidence of change
The feature traces a series of career developments: a June 2024 award appearance, casting in the independent film Merciless, and Briarcliff Entertainment’s release of Magazine Dreams in March 2025. It also describes a run of interviews in which Majors discussed therapy, religion, childhood trauma, and hopes for his career.

Jones’s criticism is that these public-facing steps do not answer the accountability question. She writes that Majors had not publicly acknowledged culpability to the degree she considers necessary, and that the interviews she describes did not address Jabbari’s claims. That is the feature author’s assessment, not a neutral measure of rehabilitation or proof that no change has occurred.
Why people disagree about a comeback
The case for allowing a return
Producer Christopher Tuffin, quoted by Jones, said, “I believe that this matter has been adjudicated in the courts and he has a right to go back to his career.” That view centers the completed legal adjudication and the possibility of professional work after a sentence. It does not establish that affected people feel safe, that trust has been restored, or that a return amounts to redemption.

The case for withholding acceptance
Jones places Jabbari’s concerns alongside the return-to-work narrative. The feature quotes Jabbari’s victim-impact statement: “I will not rest until I feel he is not a danger to anyone else.” Maura Hooper, identified in the feature as one of the women who accused Majors of violence, said, “I don’t really care that his movie is coming out.” She also asked, “How could I know if he’s changed?” and said, “I don’t see redemption happening here.” These are their stated views, not independent determinations of treatment outcomes.

There is no objective public test that settles when someone should be welcomed back. Jones’s argument points to a distinction worth keeping clear: getting cast, appearing at events, and promoting a film demonstrate renewed career activity; they do not, on their own, demonstrate accountability or changed behavior. Conversely, the available feature does not establish what has happened since its publication to Majors’s roles, legal status, or intervention program.

So the most defensible answer is conditional rather than a collective yes or no: audiences and the industry can recognize that Majors is working again without treating that fact as redemption. Whether to welcome that return depends on what evidence of accountability and change one considers credible—and the March 2025 feature argues that the public record it describes had not yet supplied enough.
