“thanK you aIMee” is widely interpreted as pointing to Kim Kardashian: the capital letters K, I and M in its stylized title spell “KIM.” “Cassandra” has also been read in light of Swift’s public dispute with Kardashian and Kanye West. But the available coverage presents clues and interpretation, not confirmation from Swift that Kardashian is the subject of either song.
Why “thanK you aIMee” is linked to Kim Kardashian
The most conspicuous clue is in the title itself: its unusual capitalization highlights K, I and M. TIME and The Independent reported that listeners took those letters to spell Kardashian’s first name. TIME also read details in the lyrics against the history of the public feud.
One detail TIME discussed is a lyric about a child singing a song, which the outlet interpreted as a possible reference to North West singing “Shake It Off.” That is a reporter’s proposed connection, not independently verified evidence of Swift’s intent. The title’s capitalization is a strong reason fans make the Kardashian connection, but it does not establish authorship or intended subject by itself.
Why listeners connect “Cassandra” to the same dispute
“Cassandra” offers a less direct identifying clue. ELLE interprets the title through the Greek myth of Cassandra, a prophet whose warnings went unheeded, and reads the song in the context of Swift’s account of the backlash surrounding the phone-call controversy. TIME also reports listeners connecting the track to that history.

Those readings depend more on the listener’s knowledge of the dispute than the KIM capitalization in “thanK you aIMee.” They are critical interpretations of the lyrics, not a statement by Swift confirming Kardashian as the song’s subject. The title question can therefore be answered more confidently for “thanK you aIMee” as a widely understood allusion, and more cautiously for “Cassandra” as a contextual reading.
The 2016 “Famous” phone-call controversy
The interpretations point back to Kanye West’s 2016 song “Famous” and a phone call between West and Swift about it. Kardashian posted an excerpt of the call that appeared to show Swift agreeing to a reference in the song. Swift said she had not been told about the lyric calling her “that b-tch” and denied approving it. These descriptions reflect the accounts reported at the time, not a complete or uncontested account of what every participant knew.

Swift’s publicist, Tree Paine, said West had called to ask Swift to release “Famous” on her Twitter account, not to seek approval, and that Swift declined and cautioned him about the song’s misogynistic message. The Independent reproduced Paine’s statement: “Kanye did not call for approval, but to ask Taylor to release his single ‘Famous’ on her Twitter account.”
What Swift later said about the backlash
In her December 2023 TIME Person of the Year interview, Swift described the episode as profoundly damaging. The Independent reproduced her recollection: “My career was taken away from me.” Swift also said: “You have a fully manufactured frame job, in an illegally recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and then put out to say to everyone that I was a liar.” These are Swift’s claims and recollections, not independent legal findings.

That history helps explain why listeners hear the dispute in both songs. It cannot, on its own, prove that a particular lyric describes a particular person. The strongest basis for the “thanK you aIMee” reading is its title; the “Cassandra” reading relies more heavily on the song’s themes as interpreted by critics and on the surrounding history.
Has Swift confirmed who the songs are about?
The cited coverage does not provide a direct confirmation from Swift identifying Kardashian as the subject of either track. TIME’s release-day article framed the connection as why fans thought the songs were about Kardashian, while ELLE presented its reading of “Cassandra” as an interpretation. The careful wording is that the songs are widely interpreted as referring to the dispute, with “thanK you aIMee” carrying the more explicit clue—not that Swift confirmed the identification.
