Claims that the episodes are coming out on a specific date in 2026 should be treated as unconfirmed unless Naruto’s official channels announce a schedule.
What happened to the four new Naruto episodes?
The Naruto anime’s 20th-anniversary project is real: the official Naruto site announced four new episodes on March 9, 2023. The project was originally scheduled to begin airing in Japan on September 3, 2023, but the Naruto Anime Production Committee postponed the broadcast on August 29, 2023, saying it needed extra time to improve the project’s quality. The postponement notice did not provide a new date. The official postponement notice said a revised schedule would be announced on its site and social media once finalized.
What was the original broadcast plan?
The July 23, 2023 announcement planned four consecutive Sunday broadcasts on TV Tokyo-affiliated channels, starting September 3 at 5:30 p.m. Japan Standard Time. That is historical scheduling information, not an active release date: the official page marks the broadcast as postponed. The announcement also named a 20th-anniversary version of FLOW’s “GO!!!” as the opening theme and ORANGE RANGE’s cover of “Viva☆Rock” as the ending theme. The official schedule and theme announcement includes those details.
What will the episodes be about?
The official pages describe the work as a new Naruto anime project for the franchise’s 20th anniversary. Its teaser visual features the original Team 7—Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi—but the cited announcement does not provide a full story synopsis. It therefore does not establish which arc or manga story, if any, the episodes will adapt. The March 2023 announcement confirms the four-episode plan, not a specific plot or eventual release date.

Are these episodes part of Boruto?
No. The anniversary project is separate from Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. In the same March 2023 announcement, the official site separately said that Boruto episode 293 would end the anime’s first part and that part two was in the works. That statement was about Boruto, not the delayed Naruto anniversary episodes.
Where can you check for a confirmed date?
Use the official Naruto site and its official social channels for a revised schedule. The August 2023 postponement notice said the committee would share a new schedule once finalized; it did not say when that would happen. A rumor, repost, or speculative date is not confirmation.

Where can you watch Naruto while you wait?
The official franchise anime page links to streaming information for Naruto and Naruto Shippuden. Availability varies by region, and that page does not announce where—or when—the delayed anniversary episodes will be available to stream.
