Jennie Bond, a former BBC royal correspondent, said it appeared Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie were taking “different positions” on supporting their father, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. That is Bond’s interpretation of reported public events and claims about private contact—not a position either sister has stated publicly. Beatrice was reported riding with Andrew and inviting both parents to a christening; reports summarized by Tatler said Eugenie had cut contact. Those accounts are not equally direct or independently confirmed.
What does “different positions” mean?
The phrase comes from Bond, quoted in a 2 February 2026 Tatler report. Bond said, “It would seem that the two daughters are taking different positions on supporting their father.” She was interpreting reported family contact, not relaying a public statement from Beatrice or Eugenie.
The evidence described in that report differs in kind: Beatrice’s contact was linked to reported public events and an invitation, while the account of Eugenie’s distance relied on reports attributed to insiders and other media coverage. The distinction matters: neither an appearance nor an anonymously sourced report establishes what either sister privately believes about her father or his conduct.
What has been reported about Beatrice and Eugenie?
| Princess | Reported account | What it establishes—and what it does not |
|---|---|---|
| Beatrice | Tatler said she was seen riding with Andrew in the week before its 2 February 2026 article, and had invited both parents to her younger daughter Athena’s christening in December 2025. | These are reported instances of contact. Bond interpreted the ride as “an open show of loyalty,” but that is her assessment, not a statement of Beatrice’s motive or views. |
| Eugenie | Tatler relayed reports that she had cut contact with Andrew and had not visited either parent at Christmas. | This is reported private contact based on insider accounts and other media reports; the cited coverage does not confirm estrangement through a direct statement from Eugenie. |
Bond also speculated that Beatrice, as the older daughter, might feel more responsibility for her parents’ well-being. That explanation is her conjecture, not verified access to either sister’s thinking. Neither reported contact nor distance should be treated as proof that a princess endorses or rejects Andrew’s alleged conduct.

What has changed in the wider royal context?
The sisters’ relationship with their father is not the same question as their place in the wider family. ITV reported on 30 March 2026 that Beatrice and Eugenie had attended Christmas at Sandringham in December 2025, and would not attend the Easter service at Windsor, with the King’s agreement to their alternative plans. ITV said it was understood they would attend future family celebrations. Missing that one event does not establish that they had been excluded or were estranged from the wider royal family.
Earlier, Vanity Fair reported on 24 November 2025, citing unnamed royal sources, that King Charles was considering occasional duties for the sisters and that they were willing to support their uncle. That earlier account concerns a possible public-facing role and support for their uncle; it does not show how either princess relates to Andrew.

Andrew’s status also changed. The Royal Family’s official statement on 30 October 2025 said he would no longer be entitled to the style and title “Royal Highness” or the titular dignity of “Prince” from November 2025. “Former Prince Andrew” is familiar press shorthand. ITV reported that Beatrice and Eugenie retained their princess titles.

In February 2026, Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office and released while under investigation, ABC News reported. The report described suspicion, not a charge or finding of guilt. King Charles’s statement, published by the Royal Family on 19 February, said: “I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office.” Its pledge of “full and wholehearted support and co-operation” referred to cooperation with the investigation, not to the princesses’ views about their father.

On 5 October 2026, The Associated Press reported that Andrew had filed a High Court claim challenging warrants that led to searches of two residences. AP said a hearing was scheduled for 8 October 2026; its report did not give an outcome.
