But the film’s Prime Video availability varies by region, so the headline’s streaming claim is not universal. Here’s what the film is about, what its ratings mean, and how to check where it’s available.
What is Arctic about?
Directed by Joe Penna, Arctic stars Mads Mikkelsen as Overgård, a man stranded in the Arctic after a plane crash. He survives near a makeshift camp while waiting for rescue. A second accident forces a choice: remain near the relative safety of the wreckage or set out across dangerous, unfamiliar terrain in the hope of finding help.
The premise turns on that practical dilemma rather than a talk-heavy plot. Mikkelsen carries the story as its central survivor, and the film relies on physical action, harsh conditions and restrained dialogue to convey the stakes. Rotten Tomatoes lists the runtime as 97 minutes and the rating as PG-13 for some bloody images and language. Rotten Tomatoes’ film page describes the film as requiring little dialogue to work.
Is Arctic streaming on Prime Video?
That depends on your country. A localized Prime Video page checked for this article listed Arctic but showed the video as currently unavailable in that territory. By contrast, JustWatch’s US listing, based on a service check dated September 11, 2026, reported subscription streaming through Amazon Prime Video and other channels, alongside digital rental and purchase options.

These are different regional snapshots, not a guarantee of access everywhere—or a promise that a listing remains current. Search for Arctic in the Prime Video app or website for your location and check whether the page says it is included, available to rent or buy, or unavailable. The film was described as a new Prime Video addition in a February 3, 2025 article from Tom’s Guide; that historical claim does not establish present-day access in every territory.
What does the 91% Rotten Tomatoes score mean?
As checked on October 8, 2026, Rotten Tomatoes listed Arctic at 91% on the Tomatometer, based on 150 critic reviews, and 78% on the Popcornmeter, based on more than 1,000 audience ratings. These are separate measures: the Tomatometer reflects the share of counted critic reviews that are positive, while the Popcornmeter reflects audience ratings. Neither score is a grade out of 100 or a guarantee that a particular viewer will enjoy the film.

The figures can change as reviews or ratings are added. Tom’s Guide reported an audience score of 79% in its February 2025 article, compared with the 78% shown on Rotten Tomatoes’ page when checked in October 2026. Rotten Tomatoes’ Critics Consensus says: “Arctic proves that a good survival thriller doesn’t need much in the way of dialogue to get by — especially when Mads Mikkelsen is the one doing the surviving.” This is the site’s collective consensus, not a quotation from a named reviewer.
Who is likely to enjoy Arctic?
The film is a strong fit for viewers who want a focused survival story built around one person’s decisions and physical struggle, rather than an ensemble cast or dialogue-driven plot. Its central tension—stay near the crash site or risk a trek—gives the story a clear source of danger and uncertainty.

If you are choosing a survival film for a particular mood, useful questions include how much dialogue you want, whether you prefer one central survivor or a group, which environment and hazards interest you, and how much intensity you are comfortable with. Arctic is rated PG-13 for some bloody images and language; the rating does not imply that every viewer will find its survival peril equally comfortable.
