Arabia Kadali is an eight-episode Telugu drama about Andhra fishermen caught between village rivalries and the consequences of crossing international waters. It is available on Prime Video in the catalog documented here, though availability and language options depend on your market. The series is most compelling when it focuses on the men’s changing relationships in captivity; its atmosphere and performances have real strengths, but one review also notes uneven pacing, heavy exposition and weak sea effects.
What is Arabia Kadali about?
The series follows fishermen from a remote village in Andhra Pradesh who travel to Gujarat for seasonal work. They drift across borders and end up imprisoned in Pakistan, where survival brings them into conflict with one another as well as with the circumstances holding them there. The official Prime Video listing describes the premise and identifies the series as an eight-episode first season.
The story’s central human tension is not only captivity: rival-village divisions follow the fishermen into prison. Scroll’s Udita Jhunjhunwala highlights the gradual movement from antagonism toward solidarity as one of the drama’s more effective arcs.
Is it worth watching?
For viewers drawn to character-led survival dramas and maritime settings, the answer is a qualified yes. The strongest elements, according to Scroll’s review, are the performances and the production’s grounded texture. The main reservations are that the drama can explain too much, lose momentum, and struggle to make its central character feel sufficiently complex.

Performances and characters
Scroll praises Satyadev’s restrained, grounded portrayal of Badiri, while noting that the character’s limited complexity can make his behavior less convincing and weaken tension. Anandhi’s Ganga brings warmth and agency to the story; the review emphasizes her education and strength rather than treating her only as a supporting presence. The ensemble also includes Nasser, Raghu Babu, Dalip Tahil and Poonam Bajwa, according to Prime Video’s listing.
Atmosphere and craft
The visual world is a notable asset. The review singles out Sameer Reddy’s cinematography and gritty production design, including the fishing vessels and prison interiors. It also finds a convincing quality in the depiction of daily routines. The weakness is visible in some sea effects, which the reviewer describes as poorly animated; that can undercut the scale the maritime drama is trying to create.

Pacing, exposition and dialogue
Scroll’s assessment is mixed on the writing and rhythm. It finds that extensive exposition and information sometimes dilute the dramatic force, and flags uneven pacing and dialogue that can sound unnatural. The review also considers the gender-equality message too explicitly stated at points. These are one critic’s judgments, not a measure of universal audience response, but they identify the main reasons the series may feel less absorbing than its premise suggests.
How does the series relate to real events?
Cinema Express reported that the creators connected the drama to the 2018 detention of Andhra Pradesh fishermen by Pakistani marines. The report says the fishermen were held for nearly two years before being released. That is reported inspiration for the series, not evidence that each character or event is a literal reconstruction of the fishermen’s experience.
