Initial reports described them as dating, but by April 9, Us Weekly reported they were no longer seeing each other and quoted sources who disputed that the brief connection had been a relationship. The cited coverage did not include a joint confirmation from the pair, so the accounts are best understood as entertainment-news reporting, not a verified account from either person.
What happened in St. Barts?
The story began with photographs of Simmons and Assaf kissing on a beach in St. Barts. On April 2, 2024, Us Weekly reported that Assaf, a co-owner of Serafina, had taken photographs of Simmons during the trip. The photos, rather than a public announcement by the pair, drove the first wave of coverage.
On April 5, Us Weekly said a source had confirmed the relationship to People and paraphrased that source as saying the two were enjoying each other’s company. The report also noted that Simmons posted photographs from the tropical trip without Assaf. Us Weekly’s April 5 account did not present a joint statement from Simmons and Assaf.
Entertainment Tonight reported on April 6 that the pictures had been taken earlier that week and cited a source telling People that Simmons and Assaf were dating after meeting on the Caribbean island. ET said it had sought comment from Simmons’s representative. Its report likewise relied on attributed source accounts rather than a direct confirmation by the two.

Were Aoki Lee Simmons and Vittorio Assaf dating?
Early April reports characterized the pair as dating or in a romance, but the cited reports attributed that characterization to sources. The later account was notably different: on April 9, Us Weekly reported they were no longer seeing each other. One unnamed source told the outlet, “It’s over. It was never a thing from the beginning,” and added, “It was barely anything.” Another source said, “It wasn’t a relationship.” Those remarks were not statements from Simmons or Assaf.
| Date and outlet | What the report said | Basis described in the report |
|---|---|---|
| April 5, 2024 — Us Weekly | A source reportedly confirmed a relationship to People; the pair were said to be enjoying each other’s company. | Source attribution and photographs; no joint public confirmation cited. |
| April 6, 2024 — Entertainment Tonight | A source told People they were dating after meeting in St. Barts. | Source attribution; ET said it sought comment from Simmons’s representative. |
| April 9, 2024 — Us Weekly | They were reportedly no longer seeing each other; unnamed sources characterized the connection as brief and said it was not a relationship. | Unnamed-source reporting, not a direct statement from either person. |
Us Weekly’s April 9 report is the basis for saying the connection had ended by then. It does not settle whether the two themselves would have called it dating or a relationship; the published accounts reflect differing descriptions from sources.

How old were they, and why did the age difference draw attention?
In the April 2024 coverage, Simmons was described as 21 and Assaf as 65, a 44-year age difference. These are their reported ages at the time, not current ages. Coverage repeatedly foregrounded the difference, and Simmons’s mother, Kimora Lee Simmons, later addressed it publicly.
In a May 10, 2024 retrospective, The Independent quoted Kimora saying, “There’s definitely an age dynamic there.” The outlet attributed the remarks to an interview with TMZ and also recounted the reported breakup. The Independent’s report presents Kimora’s reaction; it does not change the fact that the relationship descriptions came from media sources rather than a joint statement.

Who is Vittorio Assaf?
Assaf is identified in the coverage as a restaurateur and co-owner associated with Serafina Restaurant Group. That professional connection explains why reports often introduced him through his restaurant work. It is background to the story, not evidence of any endorsement or product connection.
