That is a clear change in what the promotional image shows; it does not, by itself, confirm how much ghostbusting Janine does in the film.
What the new images show
The images appeared on Empire magazine covers promoting Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and its cast, alongside Ecto-1. Empire promoted two glow-in-the-dark covers. Potts appears in a brown Ghostbusters jumpsuit personalized with a “MELNITZ” name patch. In the pictured image, Gizmodo noted that she did not appear to have her own proton pack.
Does Janine become a Ghostbuster in Frozen Empire?
The uniform suggests that Janine may be moving beyond her familiar reception-desk role, but a cover image cannot establish the details of her story or confirm that she takes part in field work. Gizmodo described that reading as a supposition and quoted Empire as saying Janine was “no longer relegated to the reception desk.” That is a report about the image’s implication, not a full account of her role in the film.
What the January 2024 report said about the film
Cheryl Eddy’s Gizmodo article, published January 12, 2024, identified Gil Kenan as director and co-writer with Jason Reitman. It described Potts alongside returning stars from the original films—Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and William Atherton—and the Afterlife cast: Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, and Mckenna Grace. Kumail Nanjiani and Patton Oswalt were also named.
