Annie Gonzalez said Gentefied Season 2 gives Lidia Solis room to make mistakes and reveal a more human side. In a November 21, 2021 interview with Pop Culturalist, Gonzalez summed up the season as “The matured version of Season 1.”
What Gonzalez said changed for Lidia
Gonzalez described a clear shift from Lidia’s composed first-season image to a character who is less certain of herself. “For Lidia, you’ll see her fumble a lot more. She’s so put together in the first season, and now you really get to see her human side come out and the mistakes that she makes. It’s pretty exciting, and I love it,” she told Pop Culturalist.

That description is Gonzalez’s account of Lidia’s characterization, not a plot-by-plot synopsis. The contrast is that Season 2 makes Lidia’s vulnerability and missteps more visible instead of presenting her as consistently put together.
How she summed up the season
Asked to describe the season in one sentence, Gonzalez answered: “The matured version of Season 1.” The phrase suggests development from the first season rather than a departure from the show’s existing characters and concerns.

Why a family theme resonated with Gonzalez
Gonzalez also connected personally with the possibility of being a single mother, saying, “The whole possibility of being a single mom. I grew up with a single mom. My dad wasn’t around; he tried his best.” She offered this as a reflection on why that theme struck her; it should not be taken as a disclosure about her own parenthood.
Where Lidia’s story fits in Gentefied
Netflix describes Gentefied as following the Morales cousins as they try to save their grandfather’s Boyle Heights taco shop while pursuing their own ambitions amid neighborhood gentrification. In that family-centered setting, Lidia’s personal changes sit alongside the show’s broader stories of family, work, and community. Netflix’s Season 2 episode descriptions include “Delfina,” in which Erik rushes Lidia to the hospital as the family’s plans change.
The interview was conducted with Gonzalez and fellow cast member Julissa Calderon ahead of the season’s release. Calderon said viewers would see growth and more fun for Yessika, and described the season as following “the journey of these beautiful complex human beings.”

Season 2 premiered November 10, 2021, according to TV Insider. Netflix lists Gentefied as a two-season series, and TheWrap reported on January 13, 2022 that Netflix had canceled it after Season 2. The series therefore concluded after two seasons; there is no Season 3 to anticipate.
