The coverage says she had trouble making sense of her experience because it did not match the patterns she had read about. It also describes a therapy-related turning point before the relationship ended. That detail comes from the outlet’s account of the episode, not an original transcript.
The former partner is not named in the reporting cited here. There is no basis in these accounts to identify or speculate about that person.
Why the earlier account describes six years
In an earlier Armchair Expert interview with Dax Shepard, Kendrick described a six-year relationship and a sharp change after a period she remembered as happy and loving. The Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence (PCADV), in a February 16, 2023 article, quoted her saying: “It was hard for me to recognize this as an abusive relationship because it didn’t follow the trajectory of the frog in water. It’s unusual that it was six years of a happy, loving relationship, and then overnight, a shift.” PCADV’s article places the comment in the context of Kendrick’s interview; it does not explain how the six-year description relates to the seven-year duration reported in 2024.

How Alice, Darling relates to her experience
Kendrick has connected her experience to Alice, Darling, the 2023 film in which she stars. PCADV describes the fictional film as portraying coercion, gaslighting, control, and manipulation. It can offer viewers a related story to consider, but it is not documentary evidence or a factual reconstruction of Kendrick’s private relationship.

PCADV also quoted Kendrick reflecting on the difficulty of leaving and the feelings that remained afterward: “The shame that lingers now is, ‘why didn’t I leave?’” Her words describe her own experience; they should not be read as suggesting that a person experiencing abuse is responsible for the abuse or for how long it takes to leave.
