Anitta said she was delighted to revisit Rita Lee’s “Mania de Você,” but the available reporting attributes the invitation to record the 2024 version to the production of TV Globo’s telenovela—not to Rita Lee. Anitta invited producer Hitmaker to work on her cover, which became the show’s opening theme.
Who invited Anitta to record “Mania de Você”?
In an interview with gshow, Anitta said, “Amei o convite de revisitar ‘Mania de Você’, que é um clássico atemporal da nossa música e faz parte da vida de muita gente, inclusive a minha” (“I loved the invitation to revisit ‘Mania de Você,’ a timeless classic of our music that is part of many people’s lives, including mine”; translated from Portuguese).
The report says the invitation to re-record the song came from the production of TV Globo’s 2024 telenovela, also titled Mania de Você. Anitta then asked Hitmaker to produce her version. The reporting does not establish that Lee personally invited Anitta to make the 2024 recording.
How did Anitta approach the cover?
Anitta described the adaptation as a challenge of finding a new way to convey the song’s flirtatious, sensual mood. “Acho que ‘Mania de Você’ é uma música completa. O grande desafio nessa produção foi encontrar uma nova forma de narrar esse clima de flerte e sensualidade, que a Rita escreveu tão bem pra gente” (“I think ‘Mania de Você’ is a complete song. The great challenge in this production was finding a new way to tell that story of flirtation and sensuality, which Rita wrote so well for us”; translated from Portuguese), she told gshow.

Hitmaker said the project began with Anitta’s invitation to him. The first arrangement was discarded, and they started again to give the arrangement and production more impact, according to his account to gshow. The resulting version incorporated electronic elements and was released on August 27, 2024, as the telenovela’s opening theme.
What was Anitta’s relationship with Rita Lee?
Anitta said she had met Lee a few times and remembered her as “muito leve e divertida” (“very lighthearted and fun”; translated from Portuguese). She also called herself a fan of Lee as both a woman and an artist, and described her as one of Brazil’s great cultural icons.

Those comments describe Anitta’s admiration and personal encounters; they do not establish that Lee invited her to record the 2024 cover. Lee died in May 2023, before the telenovela production and release.
How does Anitta’s version differ from the original and the live recording?
Rita Lee and Roberto de Carvalho wrote “Mania de Você,” which Lee released in 1979 on her self-titled album. The television soundtrack also used a separate live recording of Lee performing with Milton Nascimento, described as a performance from the 1990s. It is distinct from Anitta’s newly produced cover.

Coauthor Roberto de Carvalho approved Anitta’s interpretation. Speaking about the original, he said, “‘Mania de você’ simboliza a primeira grande exposição para o mundo da paixão avassaladora que existia entre Rita e eu” (“‘Mania de Você’ symbolizes the first major revelation to the world of the overwhelming passion that existed between Rita and me”; translated from Portuguese).
What was the cover’s chart position?
Universal Music Brasil reported that Anitta’s recording reached No. 173 on Spotify Brazil’s Top 200 on the first day after its August 27, 2024 release. The label published that dated chart snapshot on August 30, 2024; it does not indicate the song’s current position or establish how long it remained on the chart.

Universal Music Brasil has documented a red-vinyl reissue of Rita Lee’s 1979 self-titled album, which includes “Mania de Você.” That is the original album, not Anitta’s 2024 cover. Reissue details and availability may vary by edition and seller.
