The lead titles were part of a larger sequel-heavy season. Netflix Japan and U-NEXT also included these returning series:

What counts as a “new season”?
Fall lineups use “new season” loosely. Some entries are explicitly numbered seasons; others are named sequel arcs or continuations. For example, Blue Exorcist: Beyond the Snow Saga is best identified by its arc name, while Re:ZERO and MF Ghost were listed as numbered seasons. The distinction matters when checking a series’ watch order or release history.
Some titles were still airing rather than newly beginning a season in Fall. Crunchyroll described Tower of God Season 2, FAIRY TAIL: 100 Years Quest, and One Piece as continuing through the season. They belong in an ongoing/continuing category, not automatically in a list of shows whose new season started that fall.
Fall premieres that were not returning seasons
Several prominent Fall 2024 anime were new works or new adaptations, not new seasons of an existing anime. Dandadan, Blue Box, Dragon Ball DAIMA, and the new Ranma 1/2 adaptation were premieres. Their presence on seasonal schedules does not make them returning series.

The dates in this guide come from schedules published for particular services and markets. Netflix Japan’s October 4, 2024 roundup gave Japan-specific dates and descriptions. U-NEXT’s September 26, 2024 announcement said it had more than 50 Fall anime planned for sequential distribution in Japan, with additions still possible; it also said free-viewing windows and the lineup could change without notice. Crunchyroll’s seasonal listing specified supported regions title by title. None of these historical pages establishes where a show streams today.

It also reported 260 million copies worldwide for Dragon Ball. These are figures published by Netflix Japan; the roundup does not identify the original statistical publishers. They are background context, not indicators of an anime’s quality or current popularity.
Choosing what to watch from the returning shows
For a useful shortlist, compare the kind of return and the series’ continuity rather than treating the season as a ranking. A numbered follow-up such as Blue Lock Season 2 may suit someone who wants a direct continuation; a named arc such as Blue Exorcist: Beyond the Snow Saga makes the story phase explicit; and a seventh season like Natsume’s Book of Friends signals a longer-running commitment. Check a service’s current catalog in your region separately, since Fall 2024 listings are historical records.
