Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt reached a written divorce agreement in December 2024, and Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Scott J. Nord approved it on Dec. 31. The filing described an agreement on marital and property rights and said both waived future spousal financial support. Other terms were not publicly disclosed in the cited reporting. The approval settled their divorce agreement, not their separate Château Miraval litigation.
What did Jolie and Pitt agree to?
The publicly reported filing said the former spouses entered a written agreement concerning their marital and property rights and relinquished the right to future spousal support. It did not provide a full account of how property was divided or disclose other settlement terms. The Associated Press reported the approval and the limited terms; the Los Angeles Times also covered the agreement.
Because the terms beyond the support waiver were not disclosed in that reporting, claims about who received particular assets or what custody arrangements the agreement contains cannot be confirmed from the public account. The filing’s description of marital and property rights should not be mistaken for a publicly available, itemized division.
When was the settlement signed and approved?
The parties signed off on the written agreement on Dec. 30, 2024, according to the Associated Press. Judge Scott J. Nord approved it the next day, Dec. 31. Those are separate steps: early coverage on Dec. 31 described approval as still pending, while the AP’s later report stated that the judge had approved the agreement.

Why did the divorce take eight years?
Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016, two years after the couple married. In 2019, a court separated their marital status from remaining issues and declared them legally single. Property and child-custody matters continued after that declaration, and the written agreement resolving the outstanding divorce issues came in 2024. The Los Angeles Times’ account and the AP report describe the distinction between being legally single and settling the remaining matters.
Are all of their legal disputes over?
No. The divorce agreement did not resolve the separate dispute involving Château Miraval, the French winery. The AP reported that the agreement did not affect that lawsuit, which concerns Jolie’s sale of her interest in the winery. A California Court of Appeal decision dated June 24, 2026, records the continuing litigation in Pitt v. Shefler and reverses the trial-court order under review. That ruling addresses the appealed order; it should not be described as a final decision on the underlying merits. The appellate decision is reproduced by Midpage.

What was said about the 2016 plane incident?
The divorce coverage also recounts the allegations Jolie made about an incident on a 2016 flight. These are allegations, not a judicial finding. The AP reported that the FBI would not investigate further, the U.S. attorney brought no charges, and a child-services inquiry closed without a finding of abuse. The investigative outcomes do not constitute a court determination of what happened. The AP report provides this account.

Jolie’s attorney, James Simon, said: “This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.” The statement was made by Simon on Jolie’s behalf.
