The versions available under that title differ in credits, wording, and presentation.
What is Ang Pangit na Bibe about?
Across the versions identified as adaptations of Andersen’s tale, a young bird is treated as an outsider because he looks different from the other ducklings. After separation and hardship, he grows up, recognizes that he is a swan, and finds a sense of belonging among other swans. Specific scenes and wording vary by version.

The story can be read as a reflection on exclusion, appearance-based judgment, belonging, and self-discovery. These are interpretations of its plot, rather than a single official moral shared by every edition.
Which Filipino version does the title refer to?
The title alone does not identify a particular translation or retelling. Two versions illustrate why it helps to check the credits:
#1 Best Overall
| Version | Credits and presentation | Details established |
|---|---|---|
| Giggle Academy’s “Ang Pangit na Bibe” | Credits Son Ha and describes the story as a new version of Andersen’s classic made with Giggle Creator AI. Its page labels it for ages 3–6. | The premise centers on a different-looking bird seeking a place in the world and discovering acceptance. |
| Pauling Stars’ “Ang Pangit Na Bibe” | A blog post dated December 17, 2017, credits the translation to Jabez Yaco and links the text to “The Ugly Duckling.” | It is one reposted translation; the post does not establish it as the first or canonical Filipino translation. |
The age label on Giggle Academy’s page applies to that version only; it should not be treated as a general age recommendation for every edition.

No. “Ang Bibe sa Batis,” by Madilyn P. Saphlot, appears in a Department of Education learning module and has a different plot: Baba Bibe is mocked by pigeons and later helps one of them. It is distinct from Andersen’s duckling story, despite the similar title and the presence of a bibe.
