Spoilers for all of Andor, including its final scene. The surprise at the end of season 2 is that Bix is raising a newborn on Mina-Rau, a year after she left Cassian. The scene confirms that she and Cassian had a child. Creator and showrunner Tony Gilroy says Bix left because she loved Cassian and feared she might obstruct the path he was meant to take. The reveal makes the sacrifice awaiting Cassian in Rogue One more personal: he will never know his child or the life he left behind.
What happens at the end of Andor season 2?
The finale’s final scene jumps ahead a year and shows Bix on Mina-Rau with a newborn. It is the series’ surprise twist: the child is Cassian’s, born after Bix left him. The scene does not show Cassian learning about the baby; the reveal is for the audience.
The last arc takes place in BBY 1, the year before the Battle of Yavin. Rebel intelligence officer Lonni Jung has discovered that the Empire’s public energy program conceals a weapon of mass destruction: the Death Star. When Dedra Meero’s Imperial party finds Luthen Rael, he stabs himself rather than be captured and interrogated. His choice gives Kleya Marki time to destroy evidence in the radio gallery. She later reaches the Coruscant safe house, where Cassian had expected to find Luthen, and the rebels who remain escape the Imperial assault.
Cassian brings Lonni’s intelligence to the Rebel leadership on Yavin. The leaders are skeptical; Cassian presses them to recognize what Luthen risked and to take the threat seriously. The Empire’s own machinery closes around Dedra, too: after Luthen and Lonni die, she is accused of aiding the rebellion and imprisoned on Narkina 5, the labor complex where Cassian was held in season 1.

Bix’s departure is not presented as proof that she stopped loving Cassian. Gilroy explained her reasoning to the Television Academy: “My boyfriend has a destiny that’s really important, and I might be in the way. I love him so much, so I’m going to leave.” The newborn in the closing scene reveals what Bix did not tell Cassian when she went.
That distinction matters: what the scene establishes is that Bix is with a newborn a year later; Gilroy’s interview explains the intention behind her decision to leave. It is his account of Bix’s motive, not dialogue spoken in the final scene.

What does the baby reveal mean for Cassian’s story?
The twist adds a private cost to a fate viewers already know from Rogue One. Cassian will give his life helping the Rebellion secure the Death Star plans, but he will not meet his child or share the family life Bix built on Mina-Rau. The baby does not reverse or soften that ending; it gives the loss a face and a future.
Gilroy said the ending “had to be hopeful.” He described the image as “a light, a candle in the window” for people essential to the revolution who may be forgotten when its history is written. Bix and her child offer that image of life continuing beyond the battlefield, even as Cassian’s own path leads toward sacrifice.

How does the finale lead into Rogue One?
The finale points Cassian toward the events of the film rather than ending his story with the Death Star revelation. His next steps involve Tivik, Kafrene, and Saw Gerrera on Jedha; in Rogue One, he joins the mission to obtain the Death Star plans. Luthen’s death and Kleya’s survival also carry the cost and continuity of the Rebellion forward: his final act protects its secrets, while she escapes to keep moving.
Disney describes season 2 as covering four years of story across 12 episodes, released in four three-episode chapters. The season began streaming on Disney+ on April 22, 2025. Those release and format details provide context for the season’s structure; the ending’s meaning rests on the story and the characters’ choices.
