Anatomy of Lies is a three-part documentary series about former Grey’s Anatomy writer Elisabeth Finch and the deceptions Vanity Fair reported in her personal history. Directed by Evgenia Peretz and David Schisgall, it premiered on Peacock on October 15, 2024. The series draws on interviews with Finch’s estranged wife, Jennifer Beyer, and former colleagues; Finch did not participate.
What is Anatomy of Lies about?
The documentary examines Vanity Fair’s reporting that Finch fabricated significant parts of her personal history, including a claim that she had cancer, and that elements of those stories found their way into Grey’s Anatomy storylines. Vanity Fair later reported that Finch admitted she had never had cancer. These are claims and accounts presented in reporting and the documentary; they should not be confused with a separate judicial finding.
Vanity Fair describes Beyer as a central voice in the series. The magazine reported that Finch drew on aspects of Beyer’s traumatic history while developing storylines for Jo Wilson. Beyer’s account is a participant’s testimony, not an independent adjudication of the allegations. The documentary’s framing is also informed by interviews with former colleagues.
How many episodes are there?
Anatomy of Lies is a limited, three-episode series rather than a feature film. Peacock lists one season, with episodes running 58, 54 and 54 minutes, respectively. Peacock’s series listing identifies Peretz and Schisgall as directors.

Did Elisabeth Finch appear in the documentary?
No. Vanity Fair reported that Finch did not appear despite outreach, and TIME also said she was not interviewed. Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes declined to participate, according to Vanity Fair. Those absences matter when considering whose accounts shape the documentary: it features Beyer and former colleagues, but not interviews with Finch or Rhimes.
When did it premiere, and where can you watch it?
The series premiered on Peacock on October 15, 2024. Peacock currently lists it for streaming, and Sky’s listing says it is available on Peacock in the United States. How does the documentary relate to Vanity Fair’s reporting?
The series is a screen adaptation and continuation of the reporting, not a substitute for the original articles. Dorothy St. Pictures describes it as a Vanity Fair Studios and Peacock project that follows Vanity Fair’s earlier coverage. The Vanity Fair preview outlines the reporting behind the series, while its profile of Finch recounts the magazine’s account of her history and the reported cancer admission. The documentary adds interview testimony and a three-episode format; its perspective is shaped by the people who agreed to appear.
Finch publicly acknowledged her lies in a statement quoted by Vanity Fair from an Instagram post on October 15, 2024: “The truth is, there is no excuse, no justification—nothing will ever make my lies to anyone okay.” That statement is distinct from the accounts of Beyer and former colleagues featured in the documentary.
