In a January 2025 interview about Goosebumps: The Vanishing, actors Ana Ortiz and Francesca Noel described the franchise’s cross-generational appeal through personal memories: Ortiz connected the books with her children’s reading, while Noel recalled discovering them in her childhood library. Their accounts suggest how nostalgia, new discoveries, scares, mystery and humor can meet in one family-viewing experience—but they are interviewees’ perspectives, not audience research.
What Ortiz and Noel say makes Goosebumps appeal across generations
The Mary Sue’s January 11, 2025 interview with Ortiz and Noel centers on two different ways into Goosebumps: returning to stories that mattered in childhood and encountering the franchise for the first time. The first can carry nostalgia for adults; the second can make the material feel fresh to younger viewers. The interview presents this as a qualitative explanation of the franchise’s reach, not a measured account of its audience.
For Ortiz, the books helped bring her children to reading
Ortiz described the books as part of her family’s experience with both reading and horror. “For my kids, Goosebumps is what made them readers,” she told The Mary Sue. That is her account of her own children, not evidence that the books have a proven literacy effect for children generally.
Noel remembers finding the books as a child
Noel recalled reading Goosebumps in the library and said the books made a strong impression on her. Her memory offers a different entry point from Ortiz’s family story: a young reader discovering the series independently, before later joining its screen adaptation as an actor.

For Ortiz, the season’s appeal also comes from its mix of tones. “What’s exciting about this season is the mix of edge-of-your-seat scares, mystery, and really funny moments,” she said. D23’s contemporaneous interview describes the season as combining action, horror, comedy and drama; David Schwimmer said the creative aim was to reach both younger and older viewers. These are descriptions of the creative approach, not proof of how every viewer responds.
That blend helps explain how the show can offer different things to different age groups: younger viewers may come for thrills, while adults may recognize the books or find another layer in the family story. The interview supports that as a way to understand its intended breadth, not as a quantified comparison of children’s and adults’ reactions.
Where The Vanishing fits in the franchise
Goosebumps: The Vanishing is a live-action anthology season. Disney Branded Television’s fact sheet lists eight episodes and identifies Ortiz as Jen and Noel as Alex, a mother and daughter. The season’s story follows four teenagers who vanished in 1994, according to a contemporaneous TVMusic Network description.
The season premiered January 10, 2025, on Disney+ and Hulu, according to Disney’s fact sheet. That dated release information does not establish whether the season is currently available in a particular country or territory.
Ortiz on representation and specificity
Ortiz also spoke about representation, saying Latin women are underrepresented in horror. She described playing a role in a universal franchise while bringing specificity to it as exciting: “I think, for me, it’s really cool to be in something that’s so universal but also has such specificity to it.” Her comment speaks to her experience in this role; it should not be read as a claim that one casting choice resolves broader industry representation.
Noel connected her childhood affection for the books with the action aspects of playing Alex. Together, their remarks show how a familiar franchise can be personally meaningful to performers as well as viewers, without making the actors’ individual experiences stand in for all fans.

What the interview can—and cannot—tell us about Goosebumps’ appeal
The interview offers concrete personal examples of why the franchise can bridge generations: a parent recalling children’s reading, an actor remembering childhood library visits, and a season designed around horror, mystery, comedy and drama. It does not provide audience statistics, a study of literacy outcomes, or an independently tested comparison with other shows. “Enduring appeal” is therefore best understood as the interview’s qualitative framing, not a demonstrated measurement of longevity or reach.
