After viewers commented on her appearance during a February 2024 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Amy Schumer said her face was puffier than usual but that she was okay. In a February 15 Instagram post, she also said women owe no explanation for their appearance. A later report, published February 26, said Schumer had told journalist Jessica Yellin that she was diagnosed with Cushing syndrome after reading the comments.
What prompted Schumer’s response?
Schumer appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon while promoting the second season of her series Life & Beth. Schumer joked in her post, “I had backup dancers on [Late Night with Jimmy] Fallon, but my face is the headline hahaha anyway,” as TheWrap reported. Her remark acknowledged the attention to her looks while redirecting it toward her work.
What did she say in her February 15 post?
Schumer acknowledged the change in appearance directly: “And you’re right, it is puffier than normal right now,” according to TheWrap. She referred to endometriosis and “medical and hormonal things” in her life, and said she was okay.

She also objected to the idea that she should have to explain how she looked: “I also believe a woman doesn’t need any excuse for her physical appearance and owes no explanation,” she wrote, as quoted by The Independent. She urged self-love and asked readers to focus on her creative work: “Maybe just maybe we can focus on that for a little,” TheWrap quoted her as saying.
TheWrap also reported that Schumer recommended Elizabeth Comen’s book All in Her Head. The recommendation was part of her post; the book is not presented here as a diagnosis or treatment for the conditions she discussed.

The February 15 post did not name Cushing syndrome. In a separate report published February 26, CBS News said Schumer told journalist Jessica Yellin that reading the comments led to a diagnosis of Cushing syndrome.
CBS attributed to Schumer the account that high-dose steroid injections caused her condition and that her type would resolve on its own. In the interview as quoted by CBS, Schumer said, “So finding out I have the kind of Cushing that will just work itself out and I’m healthy was the greatest news imaginable.” These are details of Schumer’s reported experience, not an independent assessment of her health.
