Amber Sherlock left Nine in November 2025 after nearly 20 years, saying she had been offered other roles but would step away. In her farewell, she linked her departure to changes in evening weather coverage, calling it “the end of an era for dedicated 6pm weather presenters” as “streamlining” took hold. Nine described its broader restructure as a move to align teams and reduce duplication; later, Sherlock said she believed her age may have played a part, a claim Nine denied.

She connected her departure with a wider shift in how weather is presented on evening news. As quoted by PerthNow, she wrote: “It seems like it’s the end of an era for dedicated 6pm weather presenters as ‘streamlining’ seems to be the prevailing forecast.” She also quipped: “Good luck to whoever is brave enough to tackle the new BOM website 🤣”. The Bureau of Meteorology reference was a joke in her farewell, not an assessment of its website.
Georgie Gardner acknowledged the departure on air. PerthNow quoted Gardner saying: “Before we go tonight, we’d like to extend a farewell to our colleague Amber Sherlock.” Gardner thanked Sherlock for her contribution and wished her and her family well.

What Nine said its restructure was intended to do
Mediaweek reported on 14 November 2025 that Nine’s operating model would bring teams across Stan, Channel 9 and 9Now together. A Nine spokesperson said the change was designed to “reduce duplication, drive greater collaboration and deliver commercial growth for Nine,” while helping offset a challenging advertising market. Nine also said consultation would focus on supporting affected staff and exploring redeployment opportunities. Mediaweek’s report on Nine’s restructure
That is Nine’s stated rationale for the broader operating-model change, not an independently established explanation for every individual job decision. In March 2026, Nine said Sherlock’s dedicated Sydney 6pm weather presenter role had been made redundant in November 2025.
Mediaweek reported that about 50 positions across Streaming and Broadcast were expected to go during the restructure. That was an estimate reported at the time, not a confirmed final count.

Why Sherlock’s departure became a dispute
In a report published on 22 March 2026, Yahoo Lifestyle said Sherlock believed being 50 may have been more of an issue than her salary. She also said people taking on work she had done were 10 to 15 years younger. That age difference is Sherlock’s comparison, not an independently established statistic about Nine’s workforce.
