Leah had voiced the wish earlier that year, but the available reporting does not establish that an adoption took place.
What Amber said about Leah’s adoption wish
In the April 17, 2025 episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, Amber described the emotional impact of hearing that Leah wanted Kristina to adopt her. Us Weekly reported her confessional comment: “But when I found out about my daughter saying that she wanted to be adopted, it took over everything.”
Amber also said, “I was really in bed for over four months.” The recap described her discussing her distress and her hope for her relationship with Leah with her mother, Tonya. What Leah said she wanted
Leah explained her wish in a February 27, 2025 episode while talking with Cheyenne Floyd. Us Weekly reported that Leah, then 16, said: “I kind of want Kristina to adopt me. I’ve been wanting it for awhile just because Kristina’s been there for me since I was, like, in kindergarten and before that.” Her reason, as she gave it on the show, was Kristina’s longstanding presence in her life. How the discussion unfolded
Gary first described Leah’s wish in 2024
On a July 2024 episode, Gary said Leah had expressed interest in being adopted by Kristina. Us Weekly reported that Amber had not yet been told about the discussions at that point. The recap quoted Gary reading a text he attributed to Amber, in which she said she had called and texted Leah many times and was tired of fighting for attention. Gary also said, “Kristina is a loving parent and Leah’s wanting to be adopted by Kristina.” Us Weekly’s July 2024 report.
Leah and Gary discussed possible next steps in 2025
After Leah spoke with Cheyenne in February 2025, Gary said he would consult an attorney about what might come next. Leah said she still needed time to consider whether to file paperwork. The episode report therefore documented a wish and a discussion of possible next steps—not a completed adoption or filed petition.

Was Leah adopted by Kristina?
The reporting available here does not confirm whether an adoption was completed or whether proceedings advanced. An August 14, 2026 E! update said Leah was 17 and starting senior year, but it did not address the adoption’s status. That report cannot establish either that an adoption occurred or that it did not.
