A 2021 People report by Sam Gillette, syndicated by Yahoo Entertainment, recounts those reflections from a chapter titled “David.”
What Milano wrote about love and apology
In the chapter “David,” Milano rejects the idea that love means never needing to apologize. As quoted in Gillette’s October 26, 2021 report, she wrote: “Love, in many ways, is a constant state of apology. It means recognizing the things that you fail at, knowing that the person you love sees them too, and trying so hard to be better at them.”

She draws a distinction between saying “sorry” and taking responsibility for what happened: “Love is not a casual ‘sorry.’ Love is making amends. Love is forgiveness. Love is success and failure. Love is perpetual apology.” These are passages from Milano’s book as quoted in the report, not statements from a newly conducted interview.
How work-related distance affected their relationship
Milano also wrote about being away from her husband, David Bugliari, for work and the difficulty of balancing family life with a relationship across long distances. The report says she described scheduling conversations and long-distance dinner dates as ways they tried to stay connected, while acknowledging that the added pressures were not easy. Her account describes what the couple tried; it does not establish a universal formula for managing time apart.

Personal context in the chapter
The report says Milano and Bugliari married in 2009. It also recounts Milano’s writing about a miscarriage and Bugliari’s reassurance afterward, presenting that moment as part of her account of his support. This is a sensitive personal detail, reported secondhand through the book excerpt; it should not be read as a broader account of their private life.

Gillette’s report was published October 26, 2021, and is available through Yahoo Entertainment. The report documents what Milano wrote about her marriage at that time; it does not verify the couple’s present-day relationship status or the book’s current availability.
