For a complete, spoiler-conscious watch-through, follow Japanese release order and keep theatrical films distinct from TV specials. This list covers 15 theatrical films and 14 commonly included TV specials, counting the 2024 special ONE PIECE FAN LETTER. It is a release sequence, not a definitive chronology of where every story fits in the anime.
One Piece movies and specials in release order
The sequence below follows original Japanese release order. Some titles have different English translations in regional catalogues; alternate names are noted where useful. Toei Animation USA’s catalogue lists the theatrical films and identifies FAN LETTER as a 2024 TV special with a 30-minute runtime. How to use this order
Release order is the clearest all-purpose route
Watching by release date gives you a straightforward sequence without presenting debatable episode placements as official chronology. Many films are side adventures or retellings, and the films do not all fit neatly into one exact point in the anime timeline. If you are watching alongside the series, regard episode-era placements as approximate and be alert to character or setting spoilers.
Keep the Gold stories together
Heart of Gold is a companion prequel to One Piece Film: Gold. For that connected pair, watch Heart of Gold immediately before the film.

Films, TV specials, and companion works
Theatrical films include recaps
Episode of Alabasta and Episode of Chopper Plus are theatrical movies, despite their recap or reimagining approach. By contrast, the “Episode of” works listed as TV specials—such as Episode of Nami and Episode of Skypiea—are television productions, not feature films.
Optional tie-ins and crossover material
These works are connected to the franchise but are not additional theatrical films or ordinary numbered One Piece TV specials. Watch them if you want related material beyond the main list:
- Strong World Episode 0 — a prequel and promotional companion to Strong World.
- Little East Blue arc — four episodes associated with Strong World.
- Z’s Ambition arc — four episodes associated with Film Z.
- Glorious Island — a promotional short associated with Film Z.
- Silver Mine arc — a tie-in to Film: Gold.
- Uta’s Past episodes 1029–1030 — related to Film: Red.
- Dream 9 Toriko × One Piece × Dragon Ball Z Super Collaboration Special!! — a two-part crossover, not a standard One Piece special.
How many One Piece movies and specials are there?
This guide counts 15 theatrical films through One Piece Film: Red and 14 TV specials when ONE PIECE FAN LETTER is included. The 14-special total is a broad viewing-list convention; older lists often use the traditional 13-special grouping. The two counts differ because of what each list includes, not because the 13 older entries are films.
Availability and editions
Streaming and home-video availability depends on territory and can change. Toei Animation Europe’s regional catalogue names digital platforms and DVD distributors for the EMEA region, but that directory does not establish that every title is currently available on each service. Check the listing in your country for current rights, language options, and physical-edition compatibility. Toei Animation USA’s catalogue also uses different English title translations for some early works, so searching an alternate title can help identify a release.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the correct order to watch all One Piece movies?
Use the Japanese release order in the list above for the clearest complete route. It avoids treating approximate anime-episode placements as an official chronology.
How many One Piece TV specials are there?
This inclusive viewing list counts 14, including the 2024 special ONE PIECE FAN LETTER. The traditional numbered grouping contains 13.
Should I watch Heart of Gold before or after Film Gold?
Watch Heart of Gold first; it is a companion prequel to One Piece Film: Gold.
Are the One Piece movies canon?
There is no single exact anime-timeline placement that applies to every film. Many are standalone side stories or retellings, so it is more accurate to consider them individually than to label every movie canon or non-canon as a group.
