Iga Świątek’s parents are Dorota and Tomasz Świątek. NBC Olympics identifies Dorota as an orthodontist and Tomasz as a former Olympic rower who competed for Poland in the men’s quadruple sculls at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Świątek has also credited her family, especially her father, with helping her find tennis.
Who are Iga Świątek’s parents?
Her parents are Dorota and Tomasz Świątek. NBC Olympics identifies Dorota as an orthodontist and Tomasz as a former Olympic rower. The public accounts cited here establish those biographical details, but do not provide a detailed account of Dorota’s day-to-day role in her daughter’s career.
What did Tomasz Świątek do before Iga’s tennis career?
Tomasz represented Poland in men’s quadruple sculls at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. NBC Olympics lists the event, and the USTA’s US Open profile independently reports his Olympic rowing participation.
His athletic background is relevant context, but it should not be confused with professional tennis coaching. The cited accounts describe influence and support, not a formal coaching role.

How did her family influence Iga’s choice of sport?
In her official personal story, Iga says, “I wouldn’t be here where I am if it wasn’t for my family.” She adds, “It was thanks to my dad that I was able to find my place and something that I have an aptitude for.” These are her own descriptions of her family’s importance and her father’s influence.
A 2023 TIME profile reports that Tomasz steered Iga and her older sister toward individual sports. Iga explained the appeal of that approach by saying, “I’m an individualist,” and, “I want to have full control. It would be annoying for me if I didn’t.” Together, these accounts suggest a reported influence on the kind of sport she pursued—not proof that her father coached her professionally or determined her career on his own.
