Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein stars Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein, Jacob Elordi as the Creature, and Mia Goth in two roles: Elizabeth Lavenza and Claire Frankenstein. The principal cast also includes Christoph Waltz, Felix Kammerer, Charles Dance, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Christian Convery, and Sofia Galasso.
Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein is led by Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein, Jacob Elordi as the Creature, and Mia Goth in the dual roles of Elizabeth Lavenza and Claire Frankenstein. The 2025 adaptation of Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel also features Christoph Waltz, Felix Kammerer, Charles Dance, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Christian Convery, and Sofia Galasso.
The film’s ensemble reflects del Toro’s expansive approach to the story. It follows Victor from childhood into adulthood, gives the Creature a consciousness and journey of his own, and frames the narrative through an Arctic encounter before moving into the intertwined histories of Victor, his family, Elizabeth, and his creation.

Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein
Oscar Isaac plays the adult Victor Frankenstein, the brilliant and egotistical scientist at the center of del Toro’s adaptation. This Victor is not presented only as a conventional laboratory-bound “mad scientist.” Netflix’s character and production materials describe a more bohemian, rebellious interpretation: a tortured artist-scientist who believes that the scale of his ambition justifies the consequences of his actions.

That characterization makes Victor’s relationship with the Creature more complicated than a simple creator-versus-monster conflict. Victor is driven by the desire to overcome natural limits, but he must also face the moral and emotional consequences of bringing a conscious being into the world and then failing to take responsibility for it.
Jacob Elordi as the Creature
Jacob Elordi plays the Creature, the name used in Netflix’s official character materials. The being is assembled from bodies taken from battlefields, but the role is defined by more than its physical construction. The Creature develops a consciousness independent of Victor and has a substantial narrative journey away from the laboratory and the Frankenstein household.
Elordi approached the part through innocence, physical transformation, and the process of rebuilding oneself. That emphasis is important to the film’s interpretation: the Creature is not merely a horror image or an instrument of revenge. He is a newly conscious person trying to understand his body, his maker, and the society that responds to him.
“Frankenstein’s monster” remains a familiar search term for the character, but the Creature is the more precise name for Elordi’s credited role in this film.

Mia Goth plays Elizabeth and Claire
Mia Goth has two distinct roles in Frankenstein: Elizabeth Lavenza and Claire Frankenstein. They are separate characters divided by their histories, relationships, performances, and costumes—not a single character appearing under two names.
Elizabeth is engaged to Victor’s younger brother, William. Her position within the Frankenstein family places her directly in the film’s central emotional conflict, while her connection to the Creature helps form the triangular dynamic among Elizabeth, Victor, and the Creature.
Claire is Victor and William’s mother. Her death has a profound effect on the family and helps explain the emotional environment in which the young Victor grows up. Goth’s double casting therefore connects two different parts of the story: Elizabeth belongs to the adult relationship drama, while Claire is part of Victor’s formative family history.

The two Victors: Christian Convery and Oscar Isaac
The film does not give the entire role of Victor to one performer. Christian Convery plays Victor at age 10, while Oscar Isaac plays the adult Victor.
Convery’s scenes provide the childhood dimension of Victor’s story. Netflix describes the young Victor as being shaped by an abusive father and an absent mother. Isaac’s adult performance shows the result of that upbringing in a man whose intelligence, resentment, and ambition become inseparable from his destructive experiment.
Keeping the two credits separate matters when identifying the cast. Christian Convery is not a younger version listed as an additional appearance by Isaac, and Isaac does not play Victor throughout the character’s entire life.
Felix Kammerer as William Frankenstein
Felix Kammerer plays William Frankenstein, Victor’s younger brother. William is the family’s favored or “golden” child, and his engagement to Elizabeth places him at the center of the relationships that drive the story.
William’s position also sharpens the contrast between the brothers. Victor is the driven outsider within his own family, while William receives the approval and affection that Victor wants but does not receive in the same way. Their family roles contribute to the tensions surrounding Elizabeth and the Creature.
Christoph Waltz as Heinrich Harlander
Christoph Waltz plays Heinrich Harlander, a wealthy arts patron who provides financial support for Victor’s experiments. Harlander is also involved in arms dealing during the Crimean War, giving the character a connection to the film’s wider political and historical world.
Harlander’s presence expands the story beyond Victor’s private obsession. Victor’s work requires resources, access, and powerful people willing to invest in his ambitions; Harlander represents the patronage and moral compromises that make the experiment possible.

Charles Dance as Leopold Frankenstein
Charles Dance plays Leopold Frankenstein, Victor and William’s father. Leopold is cold and controlling, and his treatment of the family is especially important to the story of the young Victor played by Christian Convery.
Rather than functioning only as background biography, Leopold’s behavior helps establish the emotional conditions behind Victor’s later decisions. The film uses the Frankenstein household to show how authority, grief, favoritism, and abuse influence the adult scientist before the central experiment begins.

Lars Mikkelsen plays Captain Anderson, whose ship is stranded in the Arctic. Anderson encounters a frostbitten Victor and becomes the listener for the story Victor has to tell.
This role belongs to the film’s framing narrative. The story opens with an icebound prelude, moves into Victor’s account, and later gives the Creature his own section. That nested structure echoes the layered storytelling of Mary Shelley’s novel, which also uses an Arctic expedition and embedded personal narratives to present the Frankenstein story.
David Bradley and Sofia Galasso
David Bradley appears as the Blind Man, an elderly figure encountered by the Creature during his travels. The role connects the Creature’s story to people and places outside Victor’s laboratory and immediate family.
Sofia Galasso plays Anna-Maria. Official Netflix first-look material identifies Galasso’s character in connection with Bradley’s Blind Man. The available official material supports the role credit, but does not establish additional biographical details about Galasso that need to be added to a cast guide.
The central trio: Victor, the Creature, and Elizabeth
The emotional center of del Toro’s film is the relationship among Victor, the Creature, and Elizabeth. Isaac, Elordi, and Goth carry this triangular dynamic, with each character connected to the others by creation, family, desire, responsibility, and competing ideas of belonging.

Victor sees the experiment as an extension of his intellect and ambition. The Creature experiences the consequences as a newly conscious being who must form an identity without the guidance or acceptance he needs. Elizabeth is connected to Victor’s family through William, yet she is also drawn into the Creature’s experience. Their three-way relationship gives the adaptation its human drama as well as its Gothic imagery.
Who directed and wrote Frankenstein?
Guillermo del Toro wrote and directed the film, adapting Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, first published in 1818. The production treats Shelley’s novel as more than a source for the Creature’s basic premise: its Arctic framing story and layered accounts are also part of the adaptation’s literary context.
For readers who want to compare the film with its source, a natural starting point is to read Mary Shelley’s original Frankenstein. The film is del Toro’s interpretation, so differences in character emphasis, chronology, visual design, and narrative structure are part of the adaptation rather than errors in the cast listing.

Production details behind the cast
Although they are not cast members, several key collaborators shaped the world in which this ensemble performs. Tamara Deverell is credited with production design, Kate Hawley with costume design, Evan Schiff with editing, and Alexandre Desplat with the score.
Those credits are particularly relevant to a del Toro adaptation because the film is built as a large-scale Gothic period production. The costumes and production design distinguish Elizabeth from Claire and help define the film’s historical setting, while the edit and score support its movement between the Arctic frame, Victor’s account, and the Creature’s narrative.
