Sinners, with music by Ludwig Göransson, won the 2026 Oscar for Music (Original Score). The other nominees were Bugonia, Frankenstein, Hamnet and One Battle after Another. Below, the winner takes first place; the remaining nominees follow the Academy’s published listing—not an invented verdict about which score sounds best.
How this ranking works
The Academy established the nominees and the winner, but it did not rank the five scores by artistic merit. No comparative listening assessment is available here, so claims that one score has better themes, orchestration or emotional impact than another would be unsupported. This ranking puts the winner first and lists the remaining four in the Academy’s published order. It is a factual ordering, not a claim that the Academy or a listening test ranked the other nominees.
The five 2026 Oscar nominees for Music (Original Score)
-
Sinners — Ludwig Göransson (winner)
Göransson’s score won the category at the 98th Academy Awards. The ceremony took place on March 15, 2026, and honored films released in 2025.
The film’s original score album is distinct from its separate soundtrack album of songs. The score has been documented in CD and vinyl formats: Mutant lists a 2×140g color-vinyl edition and a compact disc, while Rough Trade lists 2LP black vinyl and CD. These listings establish formats, not current stock or pricing.

What “Best Score” means at the Oscars
These nominations were in the Academy’s Music (Original Score) category, not Original Song. The Academy announced the nominations on January 22, 2026. Its announcement says members of each of its 19 branches vote on nominees in their respective categories; each category has five nominees except Best Picture, which has 10.

A January 23, 2026 Tom’s Guide listening guide reported streaming options for several nominees, including Bugonia, Frankenstein, Hamnet and One Battle after Another. Its service details are a dated snapshot, not a current, comprehensive catalog check. Search the album title and composer in your preferred service to confirm present availability. For Sinners, distinguish the original motion-picture score album from the separate songs soundtrack when choosing a release.
