Alien: Earth premiered in the U.S. on August 12, 2025. Its first season is listed on Hulu with eight episodes. The series brings the franchise’s extraterrestrial threat to Earth in 2120, through the story of Wendy, a human-consciousness hybrid, and a crashed research ship. FX has renewed the series for season 2, but no release date has been announced in the sources available here.
When did Alien: Earth premiere?
The U.S. linear premiere was Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 8 p.m. on FX. FX’s announcement also directed viewers to Hulu. Hulu’s current U.S. listing shows one season with eight episodes and labels the series TV-MA, in the thriller, science fiction, and horror categories.
FX’s premiere announcement has the original broadcast details; Hulu’s U.S. listing is the current episode reference. Outside the U.S., availability and bundles vary by region. Disney’s renewal announcement names FX, Hulu, and Disney+ in connection with the series, but that does not establish identical availability everywhere.
What is Alien: Earth about?
The story takes place in 2120, two years before the events of the original Alien film. Five corporations govern Earth: Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic, and Threshold. Humans live alongside cyborgs and synthetics, while Prodigy’s CEO pursues a new kind of being: “hybrids,” humanoid robots infused with human consciousness.

Wendy, played by Sydney Chandler, is the first hybrid prototype. When the deep-space research vessel USCSS Maginot crashes into Prodigy City, Wendy and a group of tactical soldiers encounter dangerous life forms brought by the wreck. The premise makes the series a prequel in the franchise timeline, rather than a story set before the original film’s release.
The official series description lays out the 2120 setting and hybrid premise. The chronology is also described in the Associated Press’s Comic-Con 2025 report.
