It stops short of a full takeover, but ends with Arthur facing a facehugger and dangerous creatures loose inside the facility.

The episode’s pressure comes from three stories converging: the corporation’s attempt to control the Maginot cargo, the ethical cost of Prodigy’s hybrid program, and the practical danger of keeping alien specimens contained. The characters’ choices connect those strands rather than leaving them as separate subplots.
What happens in “The Fly”
The Xenomorph continues to grow as Wendy tries to communicate with it. Meanwhile, Nibs undergoes a scientific test and later behaves differently. Dame confirms that the hybrids reprogrammed her, prompting Wendy to object that the children are being treated as tools.
In the corporate thread, Boy Kavalier negotiates with Weyland-Yutani over the Maginot cargo. The company wants it returned; Kavalier points to damages and civilian deaths and keeps the specimens under a six-week quarantine protocol. That delays recovery, but it does not remove the threat: Morrow still intends to retrieve specimens.

The containment failures turn lethal when Isaac is left to tend the specimens. The Ocellus surprises him, and he becomes trapped in a cage with fly-like creatures that spray acid and kill him. Arthur is later fired after refusing to restore Nibs to her prior state. Joe secretly deactivates Wendy’s tracking device and gives him a boat code that could help Wendy and Joe escape.
Near the end, Slightly opens the egg chamber while Arthur is in the lab. A facehugger attaches to Arthur, and Kirsh watches without alerting Kavalier. The flies then escape their chamber. These are serious breaches, but the episode leaves their further consequences unresolved rather than showing a completed takeover.

Why the dominoes start falling
Corporate leverage has a human cost
Kavalier’s negotiation is more than a delay tactic. By holding on to the Maginot specimens, he preserves Prodigy’s leverage while giving Weyland-Yutani a reason to pursue them. The six-week quarantine protocol sounds like a measure of control, but the episode’s later events make clear how fragile that control is. Morrow’s intention to recover specimens keeps the corporate conflict active even as the immediate danger moves inside the facility.
Wendy challenges what Prodigy is doing to the hybrids
Nibs’s reprogramming makes the hybrid project personal. Wendy is not simply worried about a test result; she objects to the company reducing the children to instruments. Isaac’s death then sharpens the stakes. Kit Young, discussing the scene, said: “It’s utter panic, because everything that Prodigy is building the hybrids on is a lie. All of these corporations are trying to achieve immortality through very different methods, and with Prodigy, it’s with these bodies. The stakes go way up for all the other Lost Boys, especially with Wendy, knowing that really no one is safe.” This is Young’s commentary on Isaac’s death, not dialogue from the episode.

Disobedience becomes a containment problem
The children’s actions are tied to immediate physical consequences: Slightly opens the egg chamber, a facehugger reaches Arthur, and the flies get loose. Joe’s attempt to help Wendy escape is another act of defiance, though one with a different aim. By linking personal loyalties and rebellion to failed safeguards, the episode turns the breakdown of Prodigy’s authority into a horror mechanism.
Isaac’s death brings the horror close
Isaac’s death is the episode’s most concentrated horror set piece. The danger is not only that the creatures are lethal, but that Isaac discovers he is trapped with them. Director Ugla Hauksdóttir described the scene’s long-take plan this way: “there was the whole physical component of that. But then there was also the more emotional component, which is him realizing that he’s stuck inside a cage with a dangerous alien creature.” The reference account also says the production prioritized practical effects for the death scene and that the spreading white liquid was intended as a homage to the beheading scene in Alien.

The sequence earns its impact by combining physical confinement with Isaac’s dawning realization. It also gives the episode’s larger argument a brutal form: the hybrid project’s promise of control cannot protect the people made to serve it.

Contemporary reviews were positive overall, but their specific emphases differ. IGN’s Clint Gage rated the episode 8/10, praising the clearer connections among Wendy, the Lost Boys, and the alien species, as well as the way the installment positions characters for the homestretch. Collider’s Shawn Van Horn gave it 9/10. Vulture’s Noel Murray awarded four stars out of five, praising the disturbing scenes while criticizing some conversations as blunt or hurried.

Together, these responses point to the episode’s strengths and trade-off: suspense and season momentum are strong, while some of its dialogue moves quickly through ideas that could use more room. The reviews do not amount to one uniform verdict on every part of the episode.
Does the Xenomorph take over in episode 6?
No. The episode escalates toward that possibility without depicting a full takeover. The Xenomorph is growing, a facehugger attaches to Arthur, and the flies escape their chamber. The closing danger is immediate, but what happens next remains for the following episode.
Audience figures and what they measure
The episode reference page attributes a U.S. broadcast estimate of 478,000 household viewers and a 0.12 rating share among adults aged 18–49 to Nielsen Media Research in 2025. It reports the previous episode at 361,000 households and 0.10 in the same demographic, describing the household audience as 32% higher. These are secondary-source reproductions of attributed broadcast figures, not streaming audience totals.
