The ending strongly suggests Wendy is affected when Kirsh operates on a Facehugger and an organism from it is implanted in Hermit’s lung. But the episode does not explain how Wendy senses or shares in what is happening. It presents a disturbing connection, not a confirmed answer about its cause.
What happens at the end of Alien: Earth episode 3?
In the closing sequence of “Metamorphosis,” Wendy wakes as Kirsh performs a procedure on a Facehugger. At the same time, Hermit undergoes surgery to remove part of his lung. Kirsh extracts a tadpole-like organism from the Facehugger, and it is placed in Hermit’s lung. As the procedures unfold, Wendy experiences pain and collapses.
The editing links the events by cutting between the surgeries and Wendy’s reaction. That makes her collapse feel connected to the organism’s transfer, but the scene does not show precisely what she perceives or how the connection works.
Why does Wendy collapse during the Facehugger procedure?
The strongest reading is that Wendy is affected by the procedure or by the organism. She is Prodigy’s first hybrid prototype: FX describes a hybrid as a humanoid robot infused with human consciousness. Her reaction therefore raises a specific question about how her human consciousness, synthetic body, and exposure to the alien threat might relate.

That is an implication, not a settled explanation. The episode leaves open whether Prodigy engineered a link between Wendy and the specimen, whether the connection arose through contact with the Xenomorph, or whether another mechanism is involved. None of these possibilities is confirmed in “Metamorphosis.”
What does the experiment reveal about Prodigy?
The procedure shows Prodigy treating an alien organism as something to investigate and use, even as it endangers Hermit and appears to affect Wendy. The risk is not simply that the company has encountered a dangerous species; its leaders see the encounter as an opportunity to pursue something new.

Boy Kavalier’s attention to the alien specimens also puts him at odds with the scientists working on the hybrid project. In Esquire’s recap, the Sylvias worry that he is shifting his focus away from their work and toward the new species. The experiment thus sharpens the conflict over who controls Prodigy’s priorities—and who bears the consequences of its curiosity.
How the ending connects Wendy, Hermit, and the alien threat
Wendy and Hermit’s reunion is already bound up with bodily change: she is a human consciousness in a synthetic body, while Hermit is undergoing surgery after the alien encounter. The ending makes that family story feel vulnerable to corporate decisions as well as biological danger. Writer-producer Migizi Pensoneau has discussed Hermit’s use of “Wendy” or “Marcy” as intentional, reflecting how he sees his sister in a particular moment; the siblings’ relationship is part of the story, not just a route into the science-fiction plot.

Pensoneau also describes the Xenomorph as driven by survival rather than serving only as a symbol of death. That thematic perspective can inform the scene, but it does not explain Wendy’s collapse. The episode keeps the creature’s survival instinct and Wendy’s unexplained response in separate categories: one is a creative lens, the other is an unanswered plot question.

| Layer | What the episode establishes |
|---|---|
| Shown | Kirsh removes a tadpole-like organism from the Facehugger; it is placed in Hermit’s lung; Wendy feels pain and collapses during the procedures. |
| Implied | Wendy appears to have some unusual connection to the procedure or organism. |
| Unresolved | How Wendy senses the events, whether Prodigy caused the connection, and whether it resulted from contact with the Xenomorph. |
So the ending reveals a disturbing experiment and hints that Wendy is entangled in it. It does not yet reveal the mechanism—or prove that Prodigy deliberately created the connection.
