The band said the emergency was non-life-threatening, that it made the cancellation decision following medical advice, and that Kinney’s long-term prognosis was positive. Kinney later said doctors advised him not to play in the short term and that he expected to be fine.
Why did Alice in Chains cancel its tour?
The cancellation followed a medical emergency Kinney experienced after soundcheck before Alice in Chains’ May 8, 2025 show at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The band canceled that performance and said refunds were available at the point of purchase.
On May 9, the band announced it was also canceling its upcoming festival performances and headline shows after considering the situation and following medical advice. In a statement reproduced by Loudwire, the band said: “After careful consideration and following the advice of medical professionals we have made the decision to cancel our upcoming festival performances and the Alice in Chains headline shows.” It added: “While we were all eager to return to the stage, Sean’s health is our top priority at this moment.”
The affected announced 2025 appearances included Sonic Temple, Welcome to Rockville and Boardwalk Rock, along with headline shows. The announcement concerned those upcoming dates; it does not establish that the band ended touring permanently.
