Remedy described it as the game’s second and final expansion. It is a survival-horror story starring FBC agent Kiran Estevez, set at a research facility on the shores of Cauldron Lake.
What The Lake House is about
The expansion moves the focus from Alan and Saga to Kiran Estevez, an agent of the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC). At the Lake House, a catastrophic event and reckless experiments cause reality to collide with the Dark Place. Players explore the facility’s multiple floors, face a new enemy, and find the Black Rock Launcher. Remedy also lists new music by Poe and Petri Alanko.
Remedy called the location an entirely new setting crafted for the expansion. Game Director Kyle Rowley said the team wanted to embrace the survival-horror atmosphere and gameplay associated with Alan Wake. That makes The Lake House a distinct tonal shift from the first expansion, Night Springs.
Where it fits in Alan Wake 2
The events run parallel with the early part of Saga’s story in Alan Wake 2. Lead Writer Clay Murphy described the expansion as the story of Estevez’s visit to the facility during that period. It adds another perspective to the game’s events rather than presenting a story set wholly after the main campaign.

How to access the expansion
You need Alan Wake 2 and access to its Expansion Pass. The Pass is included with the Deluxe Edition. Owners of the digital Standard Edition can buy a Deluxe Upgrade; Remedy’s FAQ, updated October 22, 2024, listed it at $20, €20, or £15 at that time. Those are historical prices, not confirmed current prices.
- If you own the Expansion Pass: The expansion unlocks automatically. From the main menu, choose Expansions.
- If you own the digital Standard Edition: You need the Deluxe Upgrade to gain access to the Expansion Pass and its expansions. Check your platform’s current listing for availability and price.
- To start from within the game: During Return 06, ask Estevez for more information about the Lake House.
The physical Deluxe Edition also includes the Expansion Pass. Remedy’s October 2024 FAQ listed it for PS5 and Xbox Series X; its contents included the base game, Deluxe items, both expansions, a reversible cover sleeve, and a code for Alan Wake Remastered. The FAQ says the expansions require additional downloads. Current stock and pricing are not established here.

Platforms and the Control connection
Remedy’s FAQ lists the digital game on PC through the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The physical Deluxe Edition’s listed consoles were PS5 and Xbox Series X.
The FBC and Estevez connect The Lake House to Remedy’s broader universe, including Control. You do not need to play Control or its AWE expansion to understand Alan Wake 2. Remedy describes them as optional, though recommended for players who want more of the connected-universe context.
