The film behind the “$80M” and “new king of streaming” headline is War Machine, a 2026 action and science-fiction movie starring Alan Ritchson. Netflix lists it as a story about an Army Ranger training mission that turns into a fight against an otherworldly killing machine. The headline’s budget and streaming-superlative claims are not established by Netflix’s official pages.
What is Alan Ritchson’s new sci-fi movie?
War Machine is a Netflix action film with science-fiction and military categories. Netflix’s U.S. title listing describes a combat engineer leading a unit during Army Ranger training when the group encounters a giant, otherworldly killing machine. Netflix Tudum frames the final stage of U.S. Army Ranger selection as a fight for survival against an unimaginable threat.

It is a fictional action story, not a documentary about the U.S. Army. Its premise brings military selection and training into contact with a science-fiction threat; the official synopsis does not present the film as a factual account.
When did War Machine come out, and where can you watch it?
Netflix Media Center gives the U.S. release date as March 6, 2026. Netflix Tudum described the movie on March 16, 2026 as streaming only on Netflix. The U.S. title page lists a runtime of 1 hour 49 minutes and offers offline downloads. Catalog availability, ratings, and plan details can vary by country and change over time, so check the Netflix listing for your location.

Who is in War Machine?
Alan Ritchson leads the cast, alongside Dennis Quaid and Stephan James. Netflix Tudum identifies Patrick Hughes as director and also names Jai Courtney, Esai Morales, Blake Richardson, Keiynan Lonsdale, and Daniel Webber.
Is War Machine really an $80 million movie?
The budget claim is not verified by the official Netflix pages reviewed. A budget page cited in connection with the headline contradicts itself, listing $73 million in its heading and $80 million in its body; that inconsistency is not a reliable basis for stating the film’s budget as fact. Netflix’s official Tudum film coverage and Media Center listing do not establish a production budget.

Is it the new king of streaming?
That description goes beyond what the available official information confirms. ComicBook.com reported on March 21, 2026 that War Machine had exceeded 80 million views after two weeks. That is a secondary report, not a view total confirmed by Netflix in the official pages reviewed. A view figure alone also does not establish a ranking across streaming services: a meaningful comparison would need a defined metric, timeframe, and geographic scope. No official Netflix audience total or all-platform ranking is established here.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How does War Machine compare with Reacher?
The headline’s “Move Over ‘Reacher’” is a promotional comparison based on Ritchson’s association with both titles, not evidence that one has overtaken the other in popularity. War Machine is a science-fiction action film; the available Netflix information does not provide a like-for-like audience comparison with Reacher. Treat the “new king” phrasing as a claim, not a confirmed streaming ranking.
