She also spoke about adapting to a changing schedule and said that, given 15 spare minutes, she would choose time with her daughter.
What Rai Bachchan means by “elegance is an attitude”
Speaking with Time+Tide’s Melissa Pearce, Rai Bachchan said Longines’ motto appealed to her alongside the brand’s watchmaking history and tradition. She explained elegance as something expressed in how a person behaves and treats others, not just in outward presentation:

“Elegance is an attitude, it’s innate, it’s not just about external presentation.”
She elaborated that it involves “your manner, your graces,” as well as values, interactions, and the dignity shown to everyone around you. This is Rai Bachchan’s own account of the motto in the interview, rather than a formal definition offered by Longines.

How she approaches a full schedule
On balancing work and family amid an international schedule, Rai Bachchan described multitasking and prioritizing while adjusting to the day as it unfolds. She cautioned against expecting everything to follow a fixed plan: “So you really cannot afford to hold onto a perception that this is the way your day must turn out.” Her advice in the interview was simple: “You need to prepare, brace yourself, be flexible.”
What she would do with 15 spare minutes
Asked how she would spend a precious 15-minute break, Rai Bachchan said time with her daughter would come first: “I love every minute that I get with her, so time with her would top the list.” The answer brings her comments about priorities down to a personal choice: when a small window of free time appears, she wants to spend it with family.

Pearce’s conversation took place in Rai Bachchan’s Four Seasons suite on the afternoon before the Sydney opening of Longines’ flagship boutique.
