What happened in SNL’s “The White Potus” sketch?
The pre-taped sketch aired during the April 12, 2025 episode hosted by Jon Hamm. It recast characters from The White Lotus as Donald Trump and people in his political circle. Sarah Sherman played Chelsea, Wood’s character, with exaggerated false teeth and an accent, in a scene that followed a fluoride joke. The Guardian’s April 14 report and the Los Angeles Times’ April 14 report described the sketch and Wood’s reaction.
Why did Aimee Lou Wood object?
Wood addressed the sketch in Instagram Stories, as reported by The Guardian. “Whilst in honest mode – I did find the SNL thing mean and unfunny,” she wrote. She said she was open to being mocked when it was clever and in good spirits, but felt the portrayal of Chelsea crossed that line.
Her criticism focused on the difference between parodying a character and making her appearance the target. “I have big gap teeth not bad teeth,” Wood wrote. She also said, “the rest of the skit was punching up and I/Chelsea was the only one punched down on.” In another post, she wrote: “Yes, take the piss for sure – that’s what the show is about – but there must be a cleverer, more nuanced, less cheap way?”
Did SNL apologize to Aimee Lou Wood?
Wood said she received apologies from SNL. That is distinct from a formal public apology: the Los Angeles Times reported on April 14 that an SNL representative had not immediately responded to its request for comment. The reporting cited here therefore establishes Wood’s account of receiving apologies, but not a public statement from SNL apologizing.

In an October 2025 interview with BBC News, as quoted by Variety, Wood said she did not regret raising the issue. She described it as breaking a pattern of internalizing hurtful treatment: “I don’t regret saying it because it was breaking a pattern, which is what I would usually do — what I did when I was younger and got bullied.” Variety reported her reflection on October 1, 2025.
