The act that drew this headline is magician Mastermind, who auditioned on the fourth night of America’s Got Talent Season 20. Published coverage describes a masked, voice-changed performer who approached the judges’ table instead of making a conventional stage entrance, and who opened the routine by asking Howie Mandel for his phone. Beyond that opening, the available reporting does not confirm the full trick, how it ended, or what the judges decided. The phrase “absolutely speechless” comes from the headline, not from a verified quote, so it should be read as the publication’s framing rather than a documented reaction.
Who Is Mastermind?
Mastermind is the stage name given in coverage of this audition. The reporting identifies the performer by that name only; it does not give a legal name, hometown, or prior credits. Readers looking for a background on the magician should treat any other biographical details they find elsewhere as unverified unless they come from the show’s official channels or the performer’s own announcements.
What the Reported Audition Involved
The coverage that reached publication describes the following sequence. Treat it as the full extent of what is established:
- Timing. The act appeared on the fourth night of Season 20 auditions. The coverage does not state a broadcast or filming date.
- Appearance. The performer wore a mask and used a voice changer, so the identity behind the act was concealed during the audition.
- Entrance. Mastermind approached the judges rather than starting from a standard stage position, which is the detail that gave the act its unusual staging.
- Opening move. The first trick began after Mastermind asked Howie Mandel for his phone.
What the Coverage Does Not Establish
Several details that a headline like this implies are missing from the reporting available at the time of writing:

- The trick itself. No description of the method, the effect, or any second or third trick is confirmed.
- The judges’ reactions. “Speechless” is headline wording. No direct quotation from Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, or the other judges is confirmed in the reporting.
- The finale. How the routine ended is not stated.
- The decision. Whether Mastermind advanced to the next round, received a golden buzzer, or was eliminated is not established by the coverage.
To confirm any of these points, the complete audition episode on the show’s official broadcast channels is the reliable source. Short clips and social posts often omit the setup and the verdict, which is where most of the headline’s claims would be settled.
The “AI” and “Glitch” Framing
Some coverage presents the character with artificial-intelligence language and a “glitch in the system” theme. That is a storytelling device used to describe the persona, not a factual claim that the performer or the act was generated by AI. Nothing in the reporting supports the idea that the trick relied on AI technology. Readers should not assume a technical explanation for the effects unless the performer or the production states one.

How to Judge Claims About This Act
When a headline promises an “unexplainable” trick, check three things before accepting it:
- Whether the source quotes the judges directly, or only describes their reactions in general terms.
- Whether the source reports the full routine or only the opening move.
- Whether the source states the outcome of the audition, since a reaction without a result is incomplete.
On the current reporting, the audition is confirmed in outline: a masked, voice-changed magician named Mastermind, approaching the judges, and beginning with a request for Howie Mandel’s phone. The judges’ reactions, the trick’s method and finale, and the result of the audition remain unconfirmed.
