If you have finished Landman and want another gritty Billy Bob Thornton series for a weekend binge, the best match is Goliath, Amazon Studios’ legal crime drama. The headline does not name the show, so this pick is an inference from two clues: Thornton in the lead, and a hard-edged story about powerful institutions. It is a strong next watch, but not the only sensible one.
Why Goliath is the series this points to
Goliath is the only Thornton series that matches both clues. Amazon’s official Prime Video listing describes it as a four-season drama. If you were thinking of a different Thornton project, the comparison below will not apply.
What Goliath is about
Thornton plays Billy McBride, a lawyer who was once powerful and has since fallen out of favour. Prime Video’s listing describes him as someone who spends more time in bars than in court. The show is built around the legal and investigative work that pulls him back into serious cases, which gives it a different texture from the oil-field fortune-seeking of Landman.
Season two: the case that drags McBride back
Season two begins when a friend’s teenage son is arrested for a double homicide. McBride’s investigation uncovers a conspiracy involving drugs, real estate and politics in Los Angeles. Amazon announced the season in May 2018, with a June 15, 2018 premiere and eight episodes.

How Amazon pitched the show
In that May 2018 announcement, Jennifer Salke, then head of Amazon Studios, said: “This chapter tells a powerfully suspenseful, multilayered story that explores the gritty side of a broken political and legal system.” That is studio promotion, not independent criticism. The same announcement also cited a first-season binge-ranking. It does not explain how that ranking was measured, and it cannot be checked independently, so treat it as marketing rather than a current popularity figure.
How Goliath compares with Landman
The two shows share a lead actor and a cynical view of powerful interests, but their settings and professions differ.

| Comparison point | Landman | Goliath |
|---|---|---|
| Profession and setting | West Texas oil industry, fixer work | Los Angeles lawyer and investigator |
| Power structure | Energy-business interests and boomtown wealth | Corporate, legal and political adversaries |
| Central draw | Billy Bob Thornton and a gritty story | Billy Bob Thornton’s performance and a hard-edged institutional conflict |
| Length on the streaming listing | Not stated in this comparison | Four seasons, per Prime Video’s listing |
If you liked Landman for its tone and Thornton’s presence, Goliath is a natural follow-up. If you watched it for the oil-industry world, expect a different kind of show: courtrooms, investigations and political fallout rather than drilling and boom economics.
Checking whether you can watch it
Goliath is listed on Prime Video, but availability and subscription requirements vary by country and change over time. Before planning a weekend, search for Goliath in the Prime Video app or on the website, confirm that it appears in your region’s catalogue, and check whether your current plan includes it.

Why this is a judgment call
The recommendation rests on the Thornton connection and the show’s institutional conflict. It is editorial judgment, not a measure of how many viewers choose Goliath after Landman. Readers who want a different tone or setting have other strong options.
