For thoughtful coverage of Afro-Latinx life on Instagram, start with the accounts that match what you want to learn: Angel Jones for race and colorism analysis, Blactina Media for Black Latinx storytelling, Miss Rizos for natural hair and representation, and Janel Martinez for journalism and Afro-Latinidad. The list below groups creators and platforms by subject rather than ranking them; handles and activity can change, so check the linked profiles before following.

For cultural storytelling and community
Blactina Media (@blactina)
Founded by Nydia Simone, Blactina Media amplifies Black Latinx stories, with storytelling across Afro-Latinx and Caribbean communities. The Afro-Latin Diaspora (@theafrolatindiaspora)
HipLatina describes this account as sharing experiences and information centered on Black communities across Latin America and the Caribbean. It may suit readers looking for diaspora perspectives; confirm that the handle is still active and that its current posts fit your interests.
Garifuna Bosses (@garifunabosses)
Created to connect and empower Garifuna communities in the United States, the account explores overlap between Latinx and Garifuna cultures. It offers a more specific community lens than a broad Afro-Latinx discovery account. The description comes from HipLatina.

For journalism and media representation
Janel Martinez (@janelm; Ain’t I Latina?)
Journalist Janel Martinez founded Ain’t I Latina? as a space for diverse Latina perspectives and conversations about Afro-Latinidad and media erasure. HipLatina quotes Martinez: “Media can either uplift or erase, and for far too long the agenda has been the latter as it pertains to multilayered Black stories.” The statement was attributed to Martinez in an Instagram post; read the HipLatina feature for context.
For natural hair, beauty, and self-representation
Carolina Contreras / Miss Rizos (@miss_rizos)
Contreras’s natural-hair work includes a blog and salon, alongside a broader effort to help Afro-Latinas feel seen and valued. Follow for hair and beauty content connected to cultural representation, not just styling tips. Allure’s profile discusses her work.

Daviana (@itsdavianaa)
Fohr’s creator feature describes Daviana’s content as natural-hair product education and tutorials, with fashion and lifestyle posts as well. That makes her a useful discovery lead for hair-care learning; check the current profile to confirm the handle and recent activity. See Fohr’s feature.
Iris Puello
People en Español’s 2018 roundup described Puello as a Panamanian makeup artist and creator focused on beauty and fashion. Because the profile is older and no current official handle or posting status is established in the available information, treat the name as a lead to verify rather than a confirmed active account. Do not assume she is the same person as Iris Beilin, who appears in a 2026 beauty directory. Sources: People en Español and FeedSpot.
Rank #4
- This collection features 16 of the most renowned salsa and Latin soul singles released on Fania Records, and its subsidiaries, between 1964-1978, making it the perfect introduction to the legendary catalog
For literature and the arts
Elizabeth Acevedo
A celebrated Afro-Dominican writer and poet, Acevedo’s work amplifies Afro-Latinx voices, including books featuring Afro-Latinx lead characters. Before following, search for and confirm her current official Instagram profile; the available reporting supports her literary relevance but does not establish a handle here. See HipLatina and its feature on Afro-Latina leaders.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose accounts—and read them with context
These are different kinds of voices, not a quality ranking or a complete directory. Some focus on scholarship, some on beauty, journalism, literature, or a particular community. Afro-Latinx identity spans countries, languages, family histories, and racial experiences; no single appearance or Spanish-language fluency is a test of belonging. Use the terminology each person or account uses for itself, and read an individual’s experience as theirs rather than as a claim about everyone in the community. Allure and HipLatina have reported on people being questioned about their Latinidad because of appearance or language: Allure, HipLatina.
