What happened at the 2022 AFL Grand Final?
Robbie Williams performed during the pre-match entertainment at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), before the Geelong–Sydney Grand Final on 24 September 2022. Delta Goodrem joined him on stage. Williams dedicated Farnham’s You’re the Voice to the singer, and archival images of Farnham appeared on the stadium screens as a bagpipe band joined the chorus. ABC News reported that Williams described the song as “the unofficial national anthem of Australia.” ABC News’ contemporary account covered the staging.
A separate tribute to Shane Warne
Earlier in the set, Williams dedicated Angels to cricketer Shane Warne. That was a separate tribute from the dedication of You’re the Voice to Farnham.
