Addison Rae’s career has moved through three distinct forms of performance: dance videos that built an audience on TikTok, a starring role in the Netflix film He’s All That, and a developing pop catalog that led to her 2025 debut album, Addison. The path was not an overnight leap from social media to stardom: Rae had described music and performing as ambitions from childhood, while her early releases and acting work gave those interests room to grow.
How did Addison Rae become famous?
Rae first became widely known for dancing to music clips on TikTok. In an August 2021 profile, the Los Angeles Times reported that this short-form video visibility had helped open a door to entertainment work, just as she was preparing to take her first acting role. The profile captures a moment in her career; its audience figures and other social statistics should not be read as current totals.

Dance videos and acting demand different kinds of performance. TikTok gave Rae a way to reach viewers through brief, repeatable clips, while a film role required carrying a scripted story across a feature-length production. Music would bring another shift: from performing in front of a camera to shaping a recorded pop identity with songs and collaborators.
What was Addison Rae’s first movie?
He’s All That and Padgett Sawyer
Rae made her acting debut as Padgett Sawyer in Netflix’s 2021 film He’s All That. Netflix presents the film as a contemporary, gender-flipped reimagining of its 1999 predecessor, She’s All That. Rae likewise described the creative approach as updating the original rather than simply reproducing it: “We really took the idea and the essence of the original movie and modernized it in a way,” she said in Netflix’s interview.

A breakthrough with a specific context
When Netflix announced a multi-picture creative partnership with Rae in 2021, it said He’s All That had been watched by more than 55 million households in its first four weeks and had ranked number one in 78 countries. Those are Netflix’s historical figures from that announcement, not a current measure of the film’s audience or availability.
The partnership announcement also placed Rae’s music ambitions in an early phase: Netflix noted her debut single, “Obsessed,” released in March 2021. The film brought her social-media visibility into scripted entertainment, but it was one milestone in a career that was also developing through music releases.

How did Addison Rae’s music career develop?
From “Obsessed” to the AR EP
Rae’s early single “Obsessed” came out in 2021. In 2023 she released AR, her debut EP. Sony Music Canada later reported that AR drew more than 10 million first-week streams; that figure is the label’s reported total, published in October 2024. The EP included “2 Die 4,” featuring Charli xcx.
“Diet Pepsi” and a new label chapter
Released on August 9, 2024, “Diet Pepsi” was Rae’s first single with Columbia Records, according to Sony’s announcement. Sony credits Rae, Luka Kloser, and Elvira Anderfjärd as writers, with Kloser and Anderfjärd as producers. The release marked a new label chapter and put songwriting and studio collaboration closer to the center of her public music story.

On October 25, 2024, Sony Music Canada announced the follow-up single “Aquamarine.” In that dated notice, the label said “Diet Pepsi” had reached 150 million worldwide streams and become Rae’s first entry on the Billboard Hot 100. Those numbers describe the label’s report at that time, not an updated lifetime total.
Addison, her debut album
Addison is Rae’s debut album, as listed by Apple Music. In her interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Rae connected the record to an interest that predated her social-media fame: “I always knew that I wanted to make music, I knew I wanted to perform.” She also described gaining confidence in studio sessions: “Then, over time, I really started to lean on myself. I really started to lean on my abilities.”

The Associated Press review emphasizes the album’s stylistic range and the contributions of collaborators Kloser and Anderfjärd. Its descriptions are critical characterizations rather than formal genre labels: the review hears trip-hop textures in “Headphones On” and a house beat in “Aquamarine.” Together, those details suggest a pop project moving across sounds rather than relying on one fixed production approach.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How the three parts of Rae’s career fit together
| Career strand | Medium and craft | What it contributed |
|---|---|---|
| TikTok | Short-form dance and social video | Built visibility and an audience through music-led clips. |
| Acting | Scripted feature film | Made Rae the lead performer in a contemporary reimagining with He’s All That. |
| Music | Singles, an EP, and a debut album | Developed a recorded pop project through releases, songwriting, and studio collaboration. |
The evidence for each strand comes from different places: Rae’s interviews explain her intentions and changing confidence; Netflix and Sony announcements document their own projects and reported performance figures; and the AP review offers a critic’s reading of the album’s sound. Keeping those perspectives distinct helps make sense of the arc without treating platform visibility, a film credit, and a mature music identity as interchangeable achievements.
