Adam Lambert released his studio version of Cher’s “Believe” on December 6, 2019, about a year after performing it at the Kennedy Center Honors. The single followed listener requests for a recording and recast Cher’s dance-pop hit as a ballad.
When did Adam Lambert release “Believe”?
Lambert’s recording came out as a one-song single on December 6, 2019. Apple Music lists its duration as three minutes and credits ℗ 2019 More Is More, LLC / EMPIRE. Apple Music’s single listing provides the release metadata.
Why did Lambert record Cher’s song?
The studio release followed Lambert’s 2018 performance of “Believe” at the Kennedy Center Honors. According to iHeart’s report on the release, listeners had asked for a studio recording. Lambert’s December 5, 2019 Instagram post, reproduced in the report, called it “a little holiday gift” for them.
How does Lambert’s version differ from Cher’s original?
Cher’s “Believe” appeared on her album of the same name, which Apple Music dates to October 22, 1998. The original is known as a dance-pop recording; Lambert’s version takes a ballad approach. iHeart described his interpretation as a “haunting ballad” that transforms the 1998 dance classic—a characterization from the outlet, rather than a formal critical consensus.
