Adam Copeland, known as Edge during his WWE career, said he broke his leg after jumping from the cage in his match with Malakai Black at AEW Double or Nothing 2024. He finished the match before going to the trainer’s room and then to an emergency room, where X-rays showed the fracture, according to remarks from a 2025 interview reproduced by ProWrestling.net.

What happened after the cage jump?

In an interview conducted by Kenny McIntosh for Inside the Ropes, Copeland recalled completing the match, walking to the trainer’s room and then going to an emergency room. He said X-rays there showed a broken leg. ProWrestling.net reproduced the account in its April 30, 2025 report, along with Copeland’s concise description: “So it just ended up being a broken leg.” Read ProWrestling.net’s report.

The report links the injury to the cage jump during Copeland’s match with Malakai Black at AEW Double or Nothing 2024. The available account establishes that he broke his leg after the jump; it does not establish fault or explain a specific cause for the fracture.

Why the headline calls him a WWE legend

Copeland is the performer who wrestled as Edge in WWE. The WWE reference describes his earlier career, but the reported cage injury happened in AEW, not WWE. WWE’s career history for Edge provides context for that connection.

How this differs from Edge’s 2011 retirement

The cage-related leg fracture is not the injury that led to Edge’s retirement from WWE. On April 11, 2011, WWE announced that an MRI review and medical advice meant Edge could not be cleared to compete because of the risks associated with his spinal condition, including paralysis or death. That was a separate, earlier medical issue. WWE’s 2011 retirement announcement explains the decision.

What is known about his status now?

The available reporting about Copeland’s interview does not establish his injury or in-ring status as of October 8, 2026. It would be inaccurate to infer from the 2024 incident alone that he remains injured, has recovered, or is unavailable to wrestle.
