Sharako Lohar is an eccentric Lysene commander of the Triarchy fleet, played by Abigail Thorn. After entering the story in season 2 as a potential naval ally for the Greens, Sharako returns in season 3 to pursue Corlys Velaryon during the Battle of the Gullet. Alyn of Hull kills Sharako in the show. In George R. R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, the character is a minor male figure who survives that battle.
Who is Sharako Lohar?
Sharako is a commander and admiral of the Triarchy, the alliance of the Free Cities of Myr, Lys and Tyrosh, also known as the Kingdom of the Three Daughters. The alliance’s control of shipping through the Stepstones makes its fleet strategically important in the war.
Warner Bros. Discovery’s season 2 character description calls Sharako “an eccentric Lysene commander of the Triarchy fleet” and identifies Abigail Thorn as the actor. The show’s introduction gives that description a distinctive edge: Sharako is confident, theatrical and willing to turn a diplomatic negotiation into a physical test.
Why does Sharako meet Tyland Lannister?
In the season 2 finale, Tyland travels to secure the Triarchy’s naval support for the Greens. Sharako tests whether he is fit to sail with her by challenging him to a mud-wrestling contest. She also proposes that Tyland father children with her wives. The encounter mixes comedy with a serious political purpose: the Greens need the fleet, but Sharako sets the terms of the negotiation.

The scene also leaves Sharako’s gender presentation open to interpretation. Another character introduces Sharako with he/him pronouns, while Thorn has described playing a woman operating in a patriarchal world. Those are distinct pieces of context, not a definitive resolution of the character’s identity.
What is Sharako’s role in the Dance of the Dragons?
Sharako commands the Triarchy fleet, making her a major naval player in the struggle between the Greens and the Blacks. Her relationship to the conflict is not only strategic: the show’s earlier fighting between Corlys Velaryon’s forces and the Triarchy gives Sharako a personal grievance against him.
Tyland’s effort to secure an alliance brings Sharako back into the war, but the alliance does not ultimately define her season 3 actions. During the Battle of the Gullet, she prioritizes reaching Corlys over the broader political objective.
What happens to Sharako in the season 3 premiere?
Sharako dies in the Battle of the Gullet. She attacks Corlys’s position and fights him aboard the ships, defeating him in their encounter. Corlys falls into the sea; Alyn of Hull intervenes, and he and Sharako fight in the water. Alyn kills her.
Thorn has said the script supplied the basic action and death, while she shaped the shifting emotions within the fight: Sharako’s belief that she is winning, her realization that she may lose, and her final awareness that she is going to die. That account describes Thorn’s performance choices, rather than additional plot events.
How does the show change Sharako from Fire & Blood?
The screen version makes substantial changes to the book character’s gender presentation, prominence and fate. Post-premiere coverage describes Sharako in Fire & Blood as a minor male character who survives the Battle of the Gullet. The series gives Sharako a more prominent introduction, casts Thorn and kills the character in the battle.
Rank #4
| Comparison | Fire & Blood | House of the Dragon |
|---|---|---|
| Gender presentation and casting | Described in post-premiere coverage as male; no actor. | Played by Abigail Thorn; the show’s pronouns and Thorn’s interpretation leave gender presentation open to discussion. |
| Character prominence | A minor figure, according to post-premiere coverage. | Introduced prominently through Tyland’s effort to secure Triarchy support, with a personal conflict involving Corlys. |
| Battle of the Gullet | Survives, according to post-premiere coverage. | Killed by Alyn of Hull during the battle. |
The name and broad military role connect the two versions, but readers should not assume the television character’s choices or fate apply to the book. Fire & Blood is the source text for the series, and reading it offers a direct way to compare the adaptation’s changes.

Thorn said she trained in the gym for about six months between seasons, then worked with the stunt team on boxing and sword fighting. She described Wolverine, as played by Hugh Jackman, as a reference point for Sharako’s close-range, forceful physicality. These details are Thorn’s account of her preparation and performance.

Thorn also discussed imagining aspects of Sharako’s past and private life that the script did not spell out. Those ideas are her interpretation of the role; they should not be treated as established screen canon unless the episodes themselves support them.
