When is the Field Museum open?
The museum’s standard listed hours are 9 a.m.–5 p.m., with last entry at 4 p.m. It lists Thanksgiving and Christmas closures, and special announcements may affect other dates or hours. Check the official visit page close to your visit rather than assuming the regular schedule applies.
How much are tickets, and how can I purchase them?
The current ticket page lists general admission starting at $30 for guests and $21 for Chicago residents. Illinois residents can reserve Free Wednesday admission; advance reservations and proof of eligibility may be required. The museum also lists discounts for seniors, students, children under three, Museums for All participants, military members, Illinois teachers, CityKey holders and others. Eligibility, documentation, purchase method and amounts vary, so confirm details on the official ticket page.
The museum recommends buying tickets in advance for the entry time you want. Onsite tickets may be available, but sales can stop when daily capacity is reached. The Pokémon Fossil Museum requires separate consideration: general admission booked online is the recommended way to secure access in advance, and attraction-pass holders should not assume they can enter the exhibition.

What should you prioritize during a visit?
Choose a few priorities rather than trying to cover every gallery in one visit. The museum’s family visit guide highlights these stops:
- Crown Family PlayLab: A hands-on play space for younger visitors.
- Grainger Science Hub: A place to explore science-related activities and displays.
- Stanley Field Hall: A landmark central space that can help orient your visit.
- Evolving Planet and SUE: Dinosaur and evolution galleries, including SUE the T. rex.
- The Machine Inside: Biomechanics: An exhibit connecting animal movement and biological design.
Exhibitions and their dates change. The museum’s current listings include After the Age of Dinosaurs through January 3, 2027, and Pokémon Fossil Museum through April 11, 2027. Confirm that an exhibit is still open and whether it requires a separate ticket before planning around it. The museum also lists 3D films.

Do CityPASS or Go City passes include the Field Museum?
The museum lists both CityPASS and Go City Chicago Pass as visitor options. Their structures differ, so compare current prices and terms with the attractions you actually plan to visit and the pace of your trip.
| Pass | Options described by the museum | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| CityPASS | Field Museum plus four attractions over nine days; CityPASS C3 includes the Field Museum plus two other attractions. | Current price, included attractions and whether the nine-day window suits your itinerary. |
| Go City Chicago Pass | Explorer options for 3–7 attractions used over 30 days, or all-inclusive options for 1, 2, 3 or 5 consecutive days. | Current price, eligible attractions and whether a consecutive-day or flexible visit window fits your plans. |
These are the options described on the museum’s attraction-pass page; providers’ prices and terms can change. Pokémon Fossil Museum admission is not included with CityPASS or Go City Chicago Pass, and same-day access for pass holders is not guaranteed.
