Read the books in a series in the publisher’s numbered order; for a standalone, choose based on the kind of story you want. The clearest starting paths are It Ends with Us before It Starts with Us, or the publisher-listed sequences for the Hopeless and Slammed series.
Is there one correct order for Colleen Hoover’s books?
No. Some books are grouped into series, but the available publisher information does not establish one continuous story or a complete author-wide publication chronology. Series order and publication order are different things: the numbered sequence is the practical guide when you are reading a connected series, while a standalone can be read on its own.
Simon & Schuster’s author catalogue describes Hoover as the author of more than 23 novels, but that catalogue is not a chronological reading list. Its size and contents can change, so use the publisher’s series pages for series order rather than treating the catalogue as a single sequence.
Read the It Ends with Us books in this order
- It Ends with Us
- It Starts with Us
Simon & Schuster identifies It Starts with Us as book two and describes it as picking up where It Ends with Us concludes, continuing Lily Bloom’s story. Read the first book before the sequel.

#1 Best Overall
Read the Hopeless series in publisher order
- Hopeless
- Losing Hope
- Finding Cinderella
- All Your Perfects
- Finding Perfect
This is the sequence shown on Simon & Schuster’s official series page. Follow that order rather than rearranging the books to reflect an assumed fictional chronology.
Read the Slammed series in publisher order
- Slammed
- Point of Retreat
- This Girl
Simon & Schuster numbers the books in this order.
Can you start with a standalone?
Yes. A standalone does not require you to finish another Hoover series first. For a suspense-oriented entry point, Hachette presents Verity as psychological thriller fiction and a standalone page-turner. That makes it a reasonable choice if you want suspense; it does not mean every other Hoover book has the same tone.
Rank #2
If you are choosing between books, consider whether you want to follow a continuing series, read relationship-centered contemporary fiction, or try a psychological thriller. You can also choose based on access: publisher listings may offer print, ebook, audio, or collections, but formats and availability vary by country and edition.
What about the Maybe Someday series?
Simon & Schuster describes Maybe Someday as a trilogy and numbers three books on its series overview. The available listing information does not identify the individual titles here, so check the live publisher page for the current title-by-title sequence rather than relying on an unverified list.

Are Colleen Hoover’s books connected?
Some titles are explicitly grouped into series, including the It Ends with Us, Hopeless, and Slammed books. The publisher information cited here does not support treating Hoover’s entire bibliography as one connected story. For a series, follow its publisher-listed order; for a standalone, start wherever its premise appeals to you.
